Cafe Joyeux — Restaurant in New York

A wonderful cafe with an equally wonderful mission, but today’s experience fell short. This is the second time I’ve tried their matcha latte, and both times the lattes were lukewarm, with little to no matcha taste. It tasted like milky water. The employee who I spoke to when I asked if I could get a new latte made or at least get more matcha powder added to my drink was very apologetic and respectful. However, the manager (?) who made my drink saw our interaction and asked me, “what’s the problem” in a rude tone. She took my cup, added more matcha, and handed it back to me without saying anything or even looking at me. The employee I was initially speaking to once again apologized, which I appreciated. The kind of coffee place employees care about you

I don't understand why this coffee shop is not on every “coffee shops you must try in NYC” lists. I don't remember when was the last time I saw kind employees like that. Every time you go in a coffee shop, even more in a huge city like NYC, employees don't care about you (and they don't even look at you). But at Café Joyeux, they TALK TO YOU. Not ONCE, but several times.

On top of that, the atmosphere and decoration are great. You can easily work there, free wifi and comfy chairs. And the coffee is also good !

I stayed there for 3h, in a Friday morning and it was not busy at all.

I went to Café Joyeux when it first opened, and got such a warm greeting when I walked in. I love the bright cheery color scheme and the tiled floor is amazing. The coffee and croissant were so good. I also bought and iced cookie for later. The staff was so nice. I like just a splash of half and half in my coffee, and they got it right. It was perfect! Hurray!! I have since been back to taste some of the other breakfast items. Last week I had the croissant bread pudding, which they heated up AND gave me whipped cream for it too. It was so good, I seriously thought about walking back over for more. The staff is kind, appreciative and work hard. Stopping at Café Joyeux on your way to the office is a great way to start the day. I highly recommend...
