Seriously one of the best croissants I’ve had in a while and I used to be an assistant pastry chef. Coffee/espresso is right up there also. Smooth and nice latte art. Friendly staff. Gorgeous plants and decor that are well taken care of. The only sort of negative comment would be about seating as guests do seem to set up shop in the limited but super comfy seating area. Maybe they could have signs that ask customers to enjoy the space and coffee for a limited time/ 45min-1.5 hour max so those looking to grab a bite there can find a spot. But it’s a lovely decadent spot for great espresso and freshly baked croissants. The other thing to note is that this is in dumbo so they have dumbo prices. $$$ Definitely one of my go-tos every once in a while when I want a delicious late, but I wouldn’t be able to afford breakfast and a latte every day. Baristas are lovely and the coffee is fine. However, Devoción’s cash policy is criminal. They technically accept cash but “don’t have a cash drawer” so they cannot make change, which doesn’t make sense if they are handling cash. Having a credit or debit card is a privilege in this country. This “exact change only” policy ensures that only the privileged can patronize this business. Quality coffee should be accessible to everyone who can afford it, whether they have a bank card or not. After all, spreading love is the Brooklyn way! An upscale spacious coffee shop with high ceilings, leather and wood elements and lots of greenery, it is quiet and pleasant ambiance and you pay for it. Try a kouign aman - a new NYC pastry obsession, a kind of a cross between a croissant and a Cinnabon roll, it is very good.
