Hanging out in New York City for my (at the time) girlfriend's birthday and we are always on the hunt for bottomless mimosas in the best city in the world! So we did our usual Yelp due-diligence ultimately finding... Dutch Fred's. Here's how it went!
Atmosphere/Appearance: We came here with our friend Aaron who's always down for action so we made reservations which were promptly honored when we arrived. The restaurant is in a more elongated setting like a lot of big city establishments are. It's difficult to describe decor here, but I would say, "modern tavern" is what it felt like. Tile floors, a generic ceiling, some wood paneling and a single row of lights illuminates the entire restaurant, but not too brightly. The left side of the interior is the bar rail with booths and other tabletop seating sprinkled throughout.
Service: I couldn't tell you who took care of me this time, but I'm sure if I had an issue I would've remembered. I know she was a lot of fun.
Food: I mmmeeeaaannn... do we really care about the food is the mimosas are flowing? The short answer is yes, but the long answer is the more mimosas you have the less you care. Lol. However, the Breakfast Flatbread was delightful. I needed the carbs so it's a flatbread consisting of a mozzarella/cheddar cheese mix, chorizo, sausage, caramelized onions, red pepper and topped with 2 sunny-side-up eggs. I ain't want my pizza THAT messy so I swapped the sunny-side-up action for some scrambled eggs. Like I said, delightful, filling and flavorful. The mimosas were on point and no too juicy at all. The Dutch's Punch was actually pretty refreshing as well.
Value: It's New York City, but peep game... $30.00 gets you unlimited mimosas, bloody marys and Dutch's Punches for "90 minutes". However, you do need to purchase an entree so you're probably looking at around $70.00 max out the door per person including taxes and tip. Not terrible in the grand scheme of what you get!
In conclusion, I loved this place and had a great time hanging out here! I look forward to paying this place another visit in the...
Read moreI’m so upset over the experience we had here. We stopped at Dutch Fred’s for some pre-show drinks and let our server know that we’d have to leave at 6:50 sharp to make our 7pm show. To make sure we could make the show, we asked for the check ahead of time. At 6:55, two of our drinks still hadn’t arrived and our server informed us that she knew we would have to leave, but they couldn’t find our check in order to refund the drinks. She said “you can come back later and we’ll make sure you get your drinks.” I was hesitant to say yes because I didn’t want to be forced to come back, so I asked again if they could refund our friend for the two drinks. The server reassured us “we’ll be here—and we’ll take care of you.”
So—we came back. As a group of 6, we didn’t want to just get two drinks and leave. Including drinks for everyone and food, we spent another $200. When we got the bill, there wasn’t anything taken off of it (they didn’t charge us for the two drinks, but we had already paid for them earlier in the night). One of our friends asked if it would be possible to comp anything on the bill, since the only reason we came back to this place was because they wouldn’t refund us earlier and said they would “take care of us.” I wasn’t expecting much, but at least something?
Our waiter came out and explained that the owner wasn’t going to be able to comp anything. We asked if we could speak with the owner and explain the situation. The owner was “in a meeting” so we offered to wait until he was free. We were told “yeah—he may not be free any time soon.” So we were essentially told to f* off. The entire experience left me incredibly frustrated because the only reason we came back to this place was because they said no to our original...
Read more4.5 stars: i was really impressed by the quality of food and cocktails at this spot! we stopped by for dinner at 8:15pm on a tuesday and it had a decent number of people but it was not crowded by any means. the lighting is dark and the vibes were chill—the decor is interesting and at the time, there were nets hung on the walls for halloween.
it’s family-style tapas, with many of the dishes being creative / american takes on various different cuisines. we ordered the following plates (** = especially recommend):
**pork belly bao buns: the pork belly was grilled very well with incredible flavors and taste. i loved the softness of the baos.
**roasted sriracha cauliflower tacos: these had amazing flavor, so yummy and the cauliflower was perfectly roasted.
**fried chicken-mousse dumplings: this was a really unique and creative dish— the filling texture and taste was really interesting and the dumpling was fried so well.
eggplant chips dipped in honey: these were great and the honey dip was a creative, interesting choice that really balanced out the oils and savoriness of the eggplant!
seared ahi tuna: incredible refreshing and smoky taste and nice, chewy texture
arugula flatbread: fresh tasting bread, nice balance of flavors from the cheese and arugula.
chicken tenders: chicken was cooked well — juicy and tender! crispy outside texture.
for cocktails, i ordered the spiked hot apple cider, which was INCREDIBLE and perfect for the start of fall: sweet, hot, and refreshing. i also got a classic espresso martini, which tasted VERY good and bold.
overall, i would really recommend this spot for their tasty, creative takes on familiar dishes and delicious, excellent...
