Frankly, the best Mexican take out in a mile+ radius, if not more. Tiny place, some seating & standing counter space but not really for dining in during busy times, more for waiting! It's the typical well maintained " hole in the wall gem ".
Amazingd full, tasty but simple bare bones stock burritos, tacos, quesadillas enchiladas etc with choice of extras.. Fast, fresh, and good meat and beans. They are always busy so you know yours is usually made to order.
Bonus: Every order comes with a pre-packed bag of tortilla chips and amazing fresh salsa, Pico and hot mystery sauce.. Also, while you wait you can munch on the same tortilla chips and salsa and Pico also out for free and a big bowl plates and tongs at the counter.
Double bonus: Large servings so probably leftovers for later. Be sure to ask for 1 more of any of the 3 sauces (red, green salsa or hot sauce and you get more of everything. Have an order for one you're splitting? Just ask for a second bag of chips too. All made fresh on site. And they are very generous. Lots of sides and a pretty decent menu overall. But again it's the go-to standards these guys are pros at.
Irks:. Often a solid 10-15 min wait. They move fast so it's just a volume thing. And only gives your more time to eat the free chips (self serve but with tongs)
It's about 2 bucks more for each dinner item than I feel is standard for burritos and such but hey it's Burrito Box. Very worth it. I lived a block away for many years and this was a staple for me. Now it's a treat when I'm in the area.
Perfect for lunch or after a long work day where you had to skip lunch and are ravenous. Open late (11pm I believe but I'll fact check). Delivery available as well. Be sure to check out sister joint across street for sandwiches called Lunch Box. Very good too!
Highly recommend checking it out whether you live near by or make a special trip to 57th and Columbus Ave. In nice weather walk across street and enjoy the goodness outside in the little makeshift park w...
Read moreToday I ordered a vegan quesadilla on my lunch break which includes, tofu, soy cheese, and I added spinach. Once I got back to work after picking up my order and began to eat my bland meal, I noticed that I the cheese was not vegan as I began feel nauseous. I immediately called the restaurant back to make them aware of there careless mistake and I was greeted by a disrespectful woman who stated that she attempted to call me several times to make me aware of the horrific mistake but my phone was not in service. I instantly snapped back making her aware that my phone is not out of service and I want my money returned back to my card and I want my correct order due to their negligence. Since I was sick and started to vomit as a result of eating dairy (I've been vegan for 10 years) , I had a co worker go to retrieve my order and only to my dismay did they tell him that I had to choose one or the other my food or the money. How dare you have the audacity to have me choose?! where is the customer service?! The manager was disrespectful to my co...
Read moreI have been going to this place for like 20 years. My mom, brother and I used to go almost every Saturday after my piano lessons and we were vegetarians. We always got the seitan burrito and it is to die for. It was the only place at the time that did it and the ingredients in the burrito are so good and fresh. The ratios are perfect. This place is so good that when I moved out of NY and went back for a job event, I HAD TO GO BACK AND EAT IT. Of course I ordered the seitan burrito but as I’m no longer vegetarian, I got the carnitas tacos too. Omg are the carnitas also to die for. I wished I could eat here all the time. The only con is that it’s a hole in the wall place and they’re popular so no room to really sit ever unless you camp out. Plus ordering could feel like you’re in a pack of sardines.
BUT ITS WORTH IT!!! I have told all my NY friend about this place and will always make the time to stop for a visit when I’m in...
