It's funny, I order delivery from here often and the food is usually pretty decent — greasy af but seasoned like people who grew up in the South. But when I decided to go in with my sisters and get it fresh for the first time today, the experience felt like typical New England racism. Passive aggressive, begrudging, but happy enough to take your money ¯(ツ)/¯ I knew the vibe as soon as the attendant took a full 3 minutes to acknowledge us, despite there being no one else in line. But giving it a chance as he was the only one working through orders upfront — and I do like to give grace for potential mental disorders — we decided to order anyway. An extra greasy BLT which came on an exxxtra smokey burnt brioche bun with old mayo (that does feel a specific choice because recent online orders seem pretty fresh?), a side of sweet potato fries (that were practically steamed in the microwave), and a white chocolate frappe (extra chunky with barely blended chips). Oh and a couple fresh glazed and cinnamon doughnuts he didn't happen to hear us request until the third time but still knew exactly which and hastily threw in a bag. Something tells me if they like you, they have all the ingredients to make a pretty tasty meal but I'm not sure what we did other be three friendly tipping Black women..? Have to say, it does feel racist — and on Malcolm X Blvd of all places. Truthfully Dough tastes better, but we just liked supporting local businesses. I didn't get a chance to ask what their favorite passage from 12 Years A Slave was noticing how high up it was on their book display, but I doubt I would have enjoyed the answer. All things said, as someone who orders from a lot of spots, you can find better elsewhere in the area.
Don't give these...
Read moreWow! I came here because I saw it on Yelp, and I arrived around 1:30PM on Sunday. Sadly, there was only one Boston cream donut and a cinnamon roll left, and there wouldn't be new ones until an hour later or more. It wasn't too much of a trek out here for me, but since I was already there, I wanted to get a donut. So, I ended up getting the Boston cream donut, even though apparently they're known for the maple donut. The donut was delicious though, as it's almost like bread. The cream wasn't too sweet which I appreciated, and the outside of the donut was a bit crispy but the inside was dense. I really enjoyed it! The chocolate was also not too sweet and quite chocolate-y. The cashier was also super friendly, patiently explaining that during the weekends, 9AM-11AM is the best bet, and depending on the day, 3PM-5PM is also good. During the weekdays, they're open from 7AM to 7PM, but he didn't exactly tell me when is a good time to get donuts. In any case, delicious! A bit pricey though at $3 for normal donuts and $3.50 for...
Read moreYears ago I ordered a lox bagel from here but they were out so I got whitefish which i'd never had before and just from the name I probably never would have thought to order? It turns out I like whitefish a lot! It turns out that's an ideal fish slime for breakfast time. So I came back a few other times hoping to get more of that good white slime I like so much but they were always out, I kept doing this until the guy behind the counter told me they aren't buying any more whitefish because it's not very popular. So basically I got incredibly lucky?? There was a very brief whitefish window that I could have missed entirely. So basically this is a restaurant where destiny will actively seek you out. Also I realize maybe that story reads like they're out of stuff a lot but I think technically I was just ordering insanely off menu? The stuff that is actually properly on the menu is all really good, the pulled pork hash is my go to and all the doughnuts are huge...
