Had a 1pm reservation today (Saturday) for four (including my 5 year old grandchild) for early Mothers Day. Read about this place and drove from Brooklyn (and my son traveled from Roosevelt Island) and arrived right before 1pm. The inside is very small, and all the (closely-spaced) tables were full. We were told that there was no reservation, and when my daughter showed the confirmation on her phone, she was told their online reservations system was malfunctioning, but they did not post anything about it...and it still processed the reservation. They attempted to rectify this by setting up umbrellas and tables in the street, past the bike lane - which was very windy and had only a low barrier separating the tables from steady traffic. Putting a young child at risk from both sides (besides the wind) was enough to "nope" out of there; fortunately I grew up in Astoria and we were aware of some very good places to go. Drove over to 35th Ave/35th Street to a long established Astoria favorite and had excellent food with a very attentive and friendly staff; the afternoon was salvaged...and more! Sorry, but you can go, Nonna. Once burned... twice shy,...
Read moreLovely Italian dishes but mostly pasta. I tried multiple dishes from them and all of them were solid, unfortunately they don't have lots of options on their menu, and the same goes for wine, they don't have options, only one wine type, so probably around 6-7 options for wine. I tried their ravioli with pesto and it was nice and light, their meatballs was nice but nothing interesting about it. I tried the strozzapreti with the ragu, a d it was delicious, chicken was lovely. But for fish they only have salmon and that's pretty much it for seafood main courses. Dessert they have 2 options and I've tried both, the chocolate caprese and the tiramisu, the chocolate was lovely but heavy, the tiramisu was lovely as well but they added too much coco powder on it that made me choke a d caught for 5 minutes. This is more of a (to-go/delivery) restaurant, so if you are planning to go there I wouldn't recommend it, the restaurant has only 2 tables, understandable with the current circumstances. They don't have wine glasses, which takes away the joy of drinking wine. Overall lovely food but it could...
Read moreMy husband and I tried Go Nonna last Saturday afternoon and we can't stop raving about it to our friends and family. Everything was 5 star, from the food to the service! Lorenzo, the owner was a delight to speak with! We started out with the Super Salad, an amazing grain salad made with farro and freekeh, and broccoli in this avocado puree and a very delicate unique dressing. So light and fresh, yet filling. Then for the main entree, I had the cavatelli pasta with asparagus, mushrooms, fava beans and pieces of delicious smoked mozzarella in garlic and oil. Absolutely loved it! All the pasta is homemade and ALL the ingredients were so fresh and flavorful. My husband ordered the pappardelle pasta dish with short ribs in a beautiful tasty red sauce. He has eaten this dish in other restaurants, but this was the best by far! We were stuffed and extremely content. Lorenzo gave us a piece of tiramisu on the house. I didn't think we could fit it in, but once we tried it that was the end of that! Looking forward to going back and trying more of their...
