It was around lunch time when I was walking to a supposed well known diner on 1st Ave on a fine Sunday. I was pretty hungry, and just having my wisdom teeth removed my options for food choices were limited to something that was easily chewable, so I figured a diner would be suffice. After stumbling upon the diner I realized it had shut down for one reason or another, so I opened google maps on my phone in search of an establishment with subsequent menu. I found Gracie Mews and it was only a couple blocks north so I decided to venture. After arriving, I immediately thought I was at another loss because of the crowd of people outside that all seemed to be waiting for a table. I decided to ask the hostess the wait time, but before I could say a word a shorter Italian guy came up to me and told me it would be about 5 minutes. I was surprised at the short wait so I decided to stay. I asked for a table outside, mainly because the weather and the seating seemed pretty legit. The service was nothing short of spectacular for how busy it was. Although we were flanked by another host seating a couple in what was supposed to be 'our table'. No worries though, the same Italian guy fixed the problem almost immediately, and we were seated. I naturally thought ordering food would take forever, but again, the service was great and we had coffee within a minute and our food in probably about 10/15 minutes. I ordered the California Omelet, which was amazing in every sense and my coffee was topped off at least 3 times, which is more than I can say for diners that are half as busy. I recommend this place any day, any time, but if your not the crowded restaurant type, you probably shouldn't go when a small army of 90 year old women are getting out of church on a...
Read more“I’m the last man standing” says owner and neighborhood fixture, Steve Kreatsoulas. And he’s right. As neighborhood stalwarts such as Three Star and Green Kitchen closed in the past year or so, Gracie Mews, the upscale diner on the UES got a major renovation and continues to serve top quality ingredients throughout its many offerings. As someone who has a restaurant background and been a customer of Gracie Mews for several years, both for my own dining and catering events for my workplace, it’s always top notch. The breakfast and lunch offerings are always generous and flavorful. They make fresh soups on the daily and their array of beverages are impressive. After conversing with Steve, we came up with a riff on one of their dishes for me. The Greek Chicken Louisiana was conceived! Blackened chicken with onions and peppers with a Greek Salad (no bread, sub avocado) and it’s a revelation. As a fellow Greek, I know when Greeks are doing the right thing and the dressing, feta and olives on the salad are the real deal. Mmm. The staff, from the servers to the behind the scenes crew keep the place moving and clean. Thankfully people are returning to Gracie Mews in the post-pandemic and hopefully it’ll thrive for many, many more years. Enclosed, outside sidewalk seating is available for those that want to stay somewhat “outside” in the colder months, as well. Gracie Mews is a place of high quality, bountiful plates and hospitality (not service, those that know the difference know) and is greatly...

-They poured a melted plastic lid into our coffee mug.
-The mug itself had a lipstick mark on it, neither of us were wearing lipstick. My water cup had stains. It looked like our cups were taken from the dirty bin.
-My partner ordered the Huevos Rancheros Wrap which is marked with a V on the menu for being vegetarian. Nowhere does it list meat on it. Her wrap arrived with sausage chunks cooked in.
-We watched them reset tables without cleaning anything.
-Poor response from management after serving us melted plastic coffee.
After we noticed the plastic lid in the coffee, we notified the server, who brought the manager over to us. I am absolutely baffled that we received any response other than an apology. He asked us what happened and then immediately cut us off before we could speak, and went on a speech about how long he has worked in the industry, almost implying he didn’t believe us. We do not walk around carrying plastic lids, it’s unbelievable to even imply we would intentionally drink melted plastic coffee. All that was offered to us was “free dessert” and to “wrap our meals to go.” We lost our appetite and do not want to consume anything else from here, including finishing our meals. He then offers us to comp the coffees..
To mess up that badly and then proceed to not apologize, and only offer to comp the coffee, is...
