I've been a regular since the pandemic. Overall good and I'd go over and over again for my convenience. But, I would like to leave my honest review.
Spicy Wonton and the Mapo tofu are my favorite. Though, I feel like the way they season the toppings and the way they cook are slightly inconsistent. Spicy Wonton sometimes come with really delicious top seasonings but sometimes it's plain with spicy oil only for $9. Mapo tofu is sometimes salty and tasty but sometimes almost plain. Sometimes it's really big chunks of tofu and sometimes well cut. They put greens and onions but I wish that they could be more reasonable with what they put instead of putting one or two pieces. The amount of pork meats also vary! I probably ordered the same menus about 10 + times and I these are the patterns I noticed and I hope it can change a bit without raising the price, which have already been done since the pandemic. Otherwise, reasonably priced overall.
Speaking of the price, I think Grain House could add reasonable portion of meat for Beef Chow Fun(glass noodles with beef). $15 after tax with glass noodles and 3-4 pieces of medium small flat beef tasted too expensive. I ordered it twice but I'd probably enjoy eating it more if the price is @ $9.99 or $13(before tax) with reasonable portion of beef, as it states on the menu "beef" chow, not glass...
Read moreDined in here on a Sunday evening as a party of 6. We were one of two parties here, it seems like this place still mostly operates as takeout/delivery. Upon entering, we were seated by the windows and the staff was very friendly they served us water in red solo cups. There's a promotion going on right now where you geta plate of free fried dumplings or soup dumplings with a $30 dine in purchase. We didn't know this at first, but the let us know since we had ordered enough food.
We got the spicy fish fillet in chili oil, Dan Dan noodles, spicy and sour soup, stir fried green beans, spicy hot pot with fatty beef. General thoughts -- the spicy and sour soup was slightly more sour than I'm normally used to, but it was stuffed with veggies. The hot pot with fatty beef was generously loaded with a variety of veggies, although some of the veggies either seemed a little overcooked or wasn't in the best shape (e.g., squishy broccoli). The star of the meal was probably the fish filet in chili oil, this was also generously loaded with bean sprouts and cabbage. There was rice served with all the non noodle dishes.
Overall, great experience with the staff. Food was decent for what you can get in the area. Another tip that I picked up, if you pay in cash you can get an additional discount off...
Read moreEhhhh..Don't understand what the buzz is about for this place. General Tso was not crispy, very sweet and very small portion for 15$. Chicken and Brocolli was watery, chicken was a bit spongy and the overall flavor tasted like the metal pot they cooked it in. Scallion pancakes were super thin and greasy! First time ordering today (well I cabbed it from the upper east side since Wok 88 is still closed) to pick up and they were not even welcoming at all. The gentleman in the front was somewhat rude and frustrated I was asking for some hot oil and duck sauce to go with my 60$ order, really? They should be thanking patrons for their business not acting annoyed when asked for some essentials with a Chinese food order. Definitely wouldn't waste my time going here ever again. I gave them two stars because they were open during this time when many other chinese restaurants are not. Good luck to them when the rest of the good ones...
