Hidden Menu Near Columbia University (Part 2)

I ordered from Living Thai on a weekday for lunch. They have a lunch specials menu with several options to choose from, I selected the red curry with a side of shumai. Upon placing my order online, I received a phone call shortly after notifying me that the restaurant ran out of shumai, and I was presented with some alternative options for my side instead. I selected the chicken pot stickers. I think my order was prepped in record time for any pickup order that I have ever picked up from. Because once I hung up the phone I was already on my way out to go pick up my lunch. The pickup process was pretty seamless, the establishment prefers cash payments. My red curry was flavorful and the chicken pot stickers tasted like any normal chicken pot sticker, but the nice part about it was that it wasn't too oily. I would say for Thai takeout orders in this area, this place probably serves smaller portions when compared to their local competitors. Overall, this is a nice option for a lunch special if you don't mind smaller portions. The staff is very friendly and I wouldn't mind trying out a meal at the restaurant one day, since it looks pretty clean and inviting.

Par for the course for a Thai restaurant with a good selection of the typical favorites at reasonable prices (ie, chicken pad Thai for $12.99). My family and I went there on a Wednesday night around 8p and there were no other diners at the time. Lots of take out it appears. Service was descent. The Indian restaurant next door, on the other hand, was packed at the same time. Note for a family of 3, they charged a mandatory 18% gratuity. I’m all for giving a gratuity but when you aren’t informed of it and it’s mandatory, then it’s not really a gratuity and more of an additional service fee. For the items below and a couple of appetizers, total bill ran us about $ 75 for 3. Area around the restaurant appeared safe to walk around.

Male waiter or owner during the lunch menu is rude and needs a serious attitude adjustment. Needs to be sent to Restaurant etiquette classes or allow someone else to have a job. Stop circling suggested tip amounts if you don't provide friendly service. Zero stars for service, per Living Thai's website it states "Here at Living Thai, you will experience the liveliness and excitement of our exhibition kitchen. Our extraordinary fast and friendly wait staff wishes to make your visit to us an unforgettable event. You could view our menu and online order ahead - no hassle. " Lunch menu was rushed with appetizers and main course served all at the same time leaving no time to enjoy my beer with our starters. We ordered a Pad Thai with beef and notified him that the beef was bad he replied 'I will let the chef know' and disappeared. No offer to fix or rectify the issue. We eventually ask for the bill and was charged in full with no followup on the pad thai or apology. He then had the audacity to charge us for the pad Thai and drew a heart around the suggested tip amounts. Not normal behavior in the restaurant service industry, maybe he is the owner???? If he is the owner it makes...

On 4/15. I carried 3 big luggage and 1 carry on and 1 duffel bag downstairs. One Latino man was outside talking on the phone. All of a sudden, he offered to help me to carry all my luggage downstairs even I wore a mask and he did not wear any protection. Then he told me he worked in the restaurant- LivingThai next door and asked me when would my cab arrive? I thought he was waiting too because he kept looking at the street after I said I called the cab. To my surprise, once my Via came, he just picked up all my luggage and lifted them up to the cab while the driver was not willing to help in the beginning(totally understandable so I gave him hand sanitizers after he dropped me off). I was so grateful and I offered him tips but he was shocked and just smiled at me and shake his head. It turned out he was not waiting for his cab and he just waited to help me out! I am so blessed and this is the most beautiful memory and a farewell gift from NYC during Covid-19. Hope everyone is safe in America! We are in this together! Always be...
