Highwater Rooftop — Restaurant in New York

Not sure if I have enough word count to say all of the nice things I would like to about the Highwater Rooftop and the team that runs it but I will certainly try.

I’ve had the pleasure of working with Maggie Zwolak, the Director of Hospitality and Events, twice now. The first time was planning a very last minute Board meeting and the most recent was planning a social gathering for 50 of my colleagues during a company conference.

Maggie makes the experience smooth and stress free. She is a true professional and extremely responsive and accommodating. Two events and many emails later, I honestly feel like we’re best friends and I’m so grateful to have her as a contact in the industry now!

The venue itself is wonderful. It’s a fairly new space and in my opinion, very well designed. The bar consists of several connected spaces across two floors that can be utilized for both the public and for private events like mine. We were in the Waterview Room both times (clearly we loved it from the first time) as we really enjoyed the combination of indoor and outdoor space which allowed our team to move and mingle more freely.

The food was delicious. We had a set hors d’oeuvres menu for our events and every item was a hit. While I was partial to the arancini, my team is still talking about the filet mignon skewers and mini sliders. The tuna in the tuna tartare was also lovely and very fresh. The food was replenished so promptly throughout the night that I can’t recall seeing an empty platter at any point.

The on-site team communicated well, making sure our huge group was well taken care of, and never without a beverage in hand. They were also incredibly friendly in each interaction and kept me informed on our spend throughout the night so I could track against my budget.

As much as I was looking forward to taking my partner to Highwater Rooftop for his birthday, I unfortunately left feeling very disappointed by the overall experience.

From the moment we arrived, the experience was confusing. There was no clear signage or designated host to check in with for our reservation. After approaching one staff member, we were asked if we had a reservation, and when I confirmed we did—specifically for a high-top table—we were seated at the nearest available table instead, with no explanation.

While I understand that the rooftop itself may have been closed due to rain, we noticed other guests making their way up, which left us unsure about whether or not the rooftop was actually accessible. This lack of clarity added to our confusion.

When our server came over, we were informed that many of the food items containing chicken were unavailable—disappointing, especially since chicken is one of the few meats my partner consumes. We were told wings were still available, so we made the best of it and ordered them along with a few appetizers. However, after a short while, another server came over to let us know that wings were also unavailable.

At that point, despite the drinks being well-made, I was frustrated by the limited food options and chose to cancel our food order altogether. While I did appreciate the (what I assume was) manager removing our last drink from the bill and doing their best to help us close out smoothly, the overall experience did not match the excitement and expectations I had going in—especially for a special occasion.

I hope this feedback is taken constructively, as I believe Highwater Rooftop has potential, but there are definitely areas that could be improved to ensure a smoother and more enjoyable...

I recently had the pleasure of organizing a Happy Hour event at Highwater Rooftop in NYC, and it was nothing short of exceptional. From the moment we stepped onto the rooftop, I was greeted by a vibrant and sophisticated atmosphere that perfectly encapsulated the essence of New York City! Equally impressive was the service. The staff was attentive and friendly, consistently ensuring that our needs were met promptly and with a smile. Their professionalism and warm demeanor significantly enhanced the overall experience, making us feel welcomed and well taken care of throughout the event.

Overall, my experience at Highwater Rooftop was outstanding. The combination of a great atmosphere, delicious food, and excellent service made for an unforgettable evening.
