Best thin crust pizza I've had in my life. The only thing that might compete is Riko's in Connecticut but that's a different category because it's chewy thin crust. Joe & Pat's, on the other hand, is crisp like a thin cracker.
The absence of excess bread gives more space to the delicious acidic flavor of the tomato sauce. The cheese stretches a bit but not so much that you're endlessly chewing. The combination of the two is something rich and wonderful.
If it weren't for the above and the fact that the staff seemed very busy and overworked, I'd be giving this place two stars. We were given a table next to the oven in the back. If you get this spot, refuse it. We inhaled a constant stream of smoke from the oven, and the staff had the back door open to help with the smell. As a result, we were hit with heat from the kitchen on one side and a cold breeze from the door on the other side.
We put up with it for 35 minutes and asked about the status of our order. We were assured it would be out in a few minutes. We asked again 10 minutes later. Given the terrible environment, my dining partner wanted to leave. Fortunately, the waiter pointed to our pizzas in the oven and actually brought the food out shortly after. In total, we waited 50 minutes for two small pies, inhaling smoke and getting blasted by heat and cold the entire time.
Surprisingly, they still charged us for the meal. Speaking of pricing, we had to specifically request the happy hour menu, even though it was happy hour. They gave us the dinner menu by default and seemed happy to charge us about 30% more for roughly the same order on the dinner menu.
When it was finally time to leave, the front of the restaurant was blocked by delivery workers. We pointed to the back door that had been hitting us with a cold breeze and asked if we could leave that way. A man appearing to be the manager shook his head and herded us toward the delivery workers. He could have at least offered some reason why we couldn't use the back door before forcing us to push our way through a crowd of random men.
So why am I giving Joe & Pat's East Village 4/5 stars? It may have been one of the worst service experiences of my life, but it was also some of the best...
Read moreMy friends and I were welcomed to our table that was under some rather romantic lighting. Our amazing waitress Asma, walked us non-Italians through the menu and explained everything really well. She also gave each of the four of us personalized recommendations.
The tri-pie pizza was the perfect appetizer. It’s not listed as an appetizer but I, or rather Asma, recommends using it as one. Split amongst four people it was enough for us to not die while waiting for the food, which came in pretty quick considering every seat was taken.
The chicken parm was mines, it tasted wonderfully. The chicken itself was nice and tender, truly cooked to perfection. I chose pasta with vodka sauce to accompany my chicken, per Asma’s recommendation, and it was the perfect choice. The portion was definitely enough for two so I took what I didn’t eat home in a little to go box.
I tried the Gnocchi and Spicy Rigatoni as well. The gnocchi was very feeling and nice and cheesy but the cheese wasn’t screaming at me, if you get what I mean. I forget what sauce was on it but it was to die for. The spicy rigatoni wasn’t too too spicy. I’m more of a mild guy myself and found it comfortably challengly spicy, not enough for me to need to drink something after the first bite.
The tiramisu is what drew me here. I love me some tiramisu and Joe and Pats did not disappoint. It wasn’t overly sweet, perfect way to balance out the flavors from earlier.
I also had a slice of cheesecake. I’m glad I tried cheesecake. I do not like cheesy desserts but I still appreciated it. I used it more to give my tongue a flavor other than the tiramisu so when I had another bite of it it really popped out. My friends loved the cheesecake though, there wasn’t a single crumb left.
Overall I would definitely recommend eating at Joe and Pats. The food, the people, the vibes, everything here is so so worth stopping by for...
Read moreOur reviews had over 52 million in the last 12 months. We do not get paid we just love to eat and have fun. We really love Joe & Pat's. Went on a Friday night but early. Super thin pizza that is super good. Normally I do not like clams, but I tried the white clam pizza because the waiter recommend it. OMG was it good. Lots of garlic, lots of clams but not a fishy taste at all. You must get this pie. She had the Original from 1960. She is Italian and loved it. She said the best SUPER THIN pizza she has ever had. I really like this style of pizza. Note the lovely char on the bottom of the pie. Enough to add flavor but not so much as to overwhelm the flavors on the other side. We had the burrata app and it was great. I like my burrata to be the same consistency as a breast implant (apologies if that is not woke) but that is how I like it. This was a nice big one with just the right consistency. Very very good. Made in house. We highly recommend this place. One of the best bartenders in town. See photos.
