La Gran Via Bakery — Restaurant in New York

I used to like this bakery, up until I began having trouble with my orders. I would order for a specific time to pick up my cake, show up an hour later and STILL had to wait cause it wasn’t ready (this happened multiple times). I’ve had another order delivered super late, arriving almost when the party was ending, and I’ve had orders where I was given the wrong bocadillos, TWICE! The first time they fixed that mistake by giving me someone else’s order. The second time it happened, I spoke to Betsy and I explained to her that this was the second time happening and she offered to give me 25 bocadillos on the house (which I never went back for). I passed by again yesterday & i asked what kind of flavor were the cakes on the display, the women told me Tres Leches, not a fan of it so I walk over and asked her for a slice of cheesecake. My nephew wanted cupcakes so I asked her for four cupcakes. As I’m telling her which cupcakes I wanted, the phone rings. She walks over to pick up the phone. She asked me again which cupcakes and I tell her, she answers the phone, grabs a tray of cupcakes and turns around to put it in the container. She then walks away, grabs a piece of paper and starts talking to the customer and writing something down on the piece of paper. Now, I’ve worked in restaurants, so I know that if I’m dealing with a customer in person, I’m not going to take another persons order on the phone. This women literally was asking the customer on the phone for information, KNOWING that I’m standing right in front of her. I find it disrespectful of her, she could’ve easily asked the person on the phone to hold, or simply could had let someone else answer the phone or ask the other lady to take care of me. I give this bakery 3 stars reason why is I been ordering cakes from here for years now I know a lot of friends and family who also have been ordering cakes from here for a long time and never had issues BUT lately the last few occasions that cakes were ordered was not ready when we went to pick it up for my sister’s engagement party I ordered a cake pick up time was for 2pm! I got there at 5pm and the cake was still not ready and I still had to wait like 45 min for the cake I usually order and put a time but go like an hour later to give them time and that way I’m in and out quick but damn almost 3 hours after my cake was suppose to be ready and it wasn’t not good, Last Saturday was my baby shower my sister in law placed the order long in advanced and pick up time was for 5pm when they went to get the cake at 6:30pm it was not ready ! When asked how much longer they couldn’t give us a time, we requested the cake to be delivered since we still had to go to the party hall and attend to our guest it was 8pm and still NO CAKE I called them and they said the cake just left and I was truly upset because we rented a location and we only had like 2 more hours there and still NO CAKE, 8:40 pm still no cake I called very upset and asked where is my cake mind you our party hall was like a few blocks away from the bakery so it don’t take 40 mins to get there the lady couldn’t get in contact with the person delivering the cake we finally got the cake a little after 9pm and my party ended not long after I was truly disappointed with the service the cake was nice and all but that shouldn’t have...

This was my first time ordering from this place, after it being highly recommended I am very disappointed with this place. First I ordered a cake with one of the rudest girls (Steph)possible not only was she not paying attention she was rushing me while yelling/arguing with her coworkers, next I ordered my cake ahead of time and payed in full, when the day of came I was running late, plus the block being blocked off for a street party. I came and called (no answer) and the place was CLOSED. No phone call was made to even ask if I was coming for my cake or a friendly reminder that my cake was waiting for me. I called the next day to see what could be done the owner basically told me that he has 500 plus cakes to deliver/give in a day and he wasn’t on top of all the cakes that are supposed to be pickup:delivered per day. That they don’t take the time to check which cakes are being picked up or not, it’s all left to the customers. I understand me being late was my fault but what kind of business doesn’t keep track of what cakes are being picked up or not? I’m very upset that my daughter day was left cake less. Just a heads up NEVER leave it fully paid leave a $10 deposit so they don’t close before you get there. First and last time ordering a cake there.
