Lee & Bai Chinese Buns Shop — Restaurant in New York

I was excited to try this new place and finally made it after a few weeks, despite the difficult parking. After spending $40 plus tips, I received some good food, but also cold buns and water condensation from the AC falling straight into my food. The cashier, despite my efforts to make her comfortable and reassuring her not to worry about getting the order wrong, couldn’t understand any English ( zero problem for us ). Even so, she casually talked to her co-worker in Chinese, basically calling me stupid for not knowing if a particular dish was salty or sweet, even though I was just asking for more information. I didn’t enjoy my spicy beef noodle. The beef chunks were dry and tough. I’m also not a fan of rice noodles and that’s what was used in the dish. The broth was mala spicy but that’s all I tasted. I really didn’t get any other hints of flavors other than mala.

The Chengdu buns were more enjoyable. The filling differed from the usual pork fillings you find in other shops and the assortment of flavors would entice me to come back to try other buns. They were still just above average and nothing to write home about.

I enjoyed their yogurt drink the most.

I visited this place based on a friend’s recommendation, but unfortunately, it didn’t live up to my expectations. While the food was decent, I found it to be overpriced for what was offered. One thing to note is that it’s a self-service setup, which I don’t mind, but there were no clear instructions on where to dispose of plates and trash.
