Magnolia Bakery in the West Village is a must-visit destination for anyone with a sweet tooth! I recently indulged in their famous treats, and let me tell you, it was absolutely delicious. The moment you step inside, you're greeted by the warm, inviting aroma of freshly baked goods that instantly puts you in a good mood.
The highlight of my visit was definitely their iconic banana pudding, which is creamy, decadent, and simply divine. It’s no wonder this dessert has garnered a loyal following! I also tried their classic cupcakes, and each bite was a delightful explosion of flavor, perfectly moist and topped with rich, buttery frosting. The variety of treats available makes it hard to choose, but everything I sampled was fantastic.
Beyond the delicious offerings, Magnolia Bakery holds a special place in pop culture history, particularly for fans of HBO's "Sex and the City." This charming bakery gained fame as one of Carrie Bradshaw's favorite spots, often featured in scenes where she enjoyed a sweet treat while navigating the ups and downs of life and love in NYC. The iconic image of Carrie walking down the street with a cupcake in hand has become synonymous with the bakery, making it a pilgrimage site for fans of the show.
The atmosphere in the West Village location is cozy and nostalgic, with a charming decor that adds to the experience. It’s the perfect spot to sit back, enjoy a treat, and soak in the vibrant energy of the neighborhood.
Overall, Magnolia Bakery is not just a place to satisfy your sweet cravings; it’s a slice of New York City history that continues to capture the hearts of locals and visitors alike. Whether you're a "Sex and the City" enthusiast or simply someone who loves delicious baked goods, a visit to Magnolia Bakery is an...
Read moreI went here two weeks straight just to try everything once. So if you’re reading my review, know that I sacrificed my body for you.
Atmosphere: it’s sweet, young, innocent. Colorful interior, aromas of butter and sugar, colorful icing and smiles of the staff and vibrancy of the customers radiate to make this place so special. You can’t help but become a child when you enter this place. It’s get crowded fast so appreciate the space you have if you’re ever in there alone. You won’t be alone for long. No seating inside. You can sit at the park across the street.
Service: the staff is friendly. They really make this place special because not only are they selling you the sweets but they’re also making the good, cleaning the space, and have to deal with their own life. So let’s keep that in mind before you waste their time. They helped guide me to which dessert is my liking and which I personally should avoid. They were right too.
Food: variety for many. It’s classic American memories. No vegan goods. Everything has butter and eggs. Don’t ask for anything new age.
If you like sweeter stuff go for: vanilla with buttercream, chocolate with buttercream, the brownies, the fruit bars.
If you like less intense sweetness go for: carrot cake, hummingbird cake, blondie bar, German chocolate cake or the icebox cake.
Their most popular cake: carrot cake. Their less dense cake: icebox cake Their most dense cake: German chocolate Their most popular item: banana cream
If you’re keto ish: go for the icebox or banana cream. I mean I’m just trying to help. It’s all fat. :)
If you love texture: go for hummingbird or carrot or coconut cake.
The cupcakes never satisfy me. I...
Read moreDuring our trip to the Big Apple we came to Magnolia solely for the world famous Banana Pudding. I'd be lying if I said we didn't pick up a few other goodies as well however. Surprisingly slow when we got there. I probably just assumed that it would be busier. But we were able to slowly browse the confections and ask questions before making our choices. In addition to the Banana Pudding, we bought an Apple Tart, Strawberry Shortcake pudding (monthly special) two mini cheesecakes and 2 flavored chocolate bars. Banana Pudding is what they're known for and to me it was good, a delicately subtle flavor and a far more whipped cream based consistency than I had expected. It is worth trying though. I initially thought the Strawberry Shortcake Pudding was the better of the two puddings as the flavor was more pronounced, as we tried them both at the same time and were able to go back and forth for comparison. However Banana wins out in the end as this is a monthly special and not likely around for the long haul. Magnolia gets 5 stars from me for the absolute PERFECT cheesecake. This is legitimately everything I want or ever could want in a cheesecake. Vivid flavor, yet a smooth, airy, and creamy texture on top of a soft and crumbly graham cracker crust. Many years from now I will still be referring to Magnolia for this cheesecake when someone asks what my favorite cheesecake is. It is truly the star of the show here. I hope that Magnolia succeeds tremendously and expands outwards to Chicago so I don't have to fly to New York to have this little...
