Wow am I so happy we were told about this place. Hands down probably the best sushi place we've been to in queens. My family grew up in Japan so i have been eating japanese food since before being born. I love sushi! Matsuri has some amazing sushi! It is very fresh and the prices are extremely reasonable. When we went there we ordered a lot! My wife and I ordered avocado salad 'was very good they use a whole avocado', Rock shrimp which was also good, Not the best I've had but still enjoyed it a lot. Truffle salmon which ive never heard of. It was also very tasty and so different. Its lightly cooked Salmon. Now for the Sushi! You must order the Sunny Flower roll it is amazing! The scallop on top makes it one of my favorite rolls I have ever had! Then I got the toro lover which is a mix of sushi and sashimi totally worth getting! We then had the tuna toro for 2 which is a ton of sashimi and sushi again the fish is so fresh it melts in your mouth.
Some advice let the sushi especially the sashimi sit for 10 minutes so its more room tempuratue I found that they keep their fish very cold and it takes away from the flavor and texture. Let it sit out for a little bit.
You have to try this place you won't regret it! After going there 2 weeks ago we have had them delivery to us 4 times since. We eat sushi a lot 3-4 times a week and this is now our go to...
Read morePersonally, I didn’t like my experience here. My friend and I order two special rolls and an appetizer. The food was okay. Now the reason I am giving this place a low rating is because of the service. The servers made us feel unwelcome and rushed. I say this because literally the whole time they were staring down our table. At the time I assume that maybe they just wanted to make sure that we had enough water or something. But the following experience made us feel like they just wanted us out of there. As soon as they saw us pick up the last piece of sushi, they rushed to our table to take our plates. The piece wasn’t even in my mouth yet and they took my plate. By the time I finished swallowing my food they brought my check. I don’t understand why they wanted us out of there so fast because the restaurant wasn’t packed. My friend and I barely even got the chance to have a full conversation because of how fast we were out of there. We were there for about 30 mins, maybe even less. Personally, I like taking my time when going out to eat, but if you like fast serves and you are just trying to go in and out, maybe this is your...
Read moreMy miso soup came first, it was tasty and hot, but perhaps a little too salty. I liked it, though, and the warm, refreshing character of the broth was the perfect escape from the chilled touch of the biting cold weather outside.
The boy brought me my sushi, which was something called a “viking roll.” It had eel, and that was the only reason I chose it. Even without the soy sauce, the roll was killer. I loved the delicate balance between cucumber, eel, rice, and the other mixed vegetables; it felt like cool crashing waves, with the tide touching my feet. The soy sauce added a sweet blend of flavors; like the hot sun raising the temperature of the vast waters. Overall, the roll was excellent.
The chicken teriyaki was phenomenal. I appreciated the seasoning of the meat, the presence but not overuse of the sauce, and the precise employment of the cucumbers. It was great, light, and powerful.
My meal at Matsuri was excellent. The sushi was delicious and fresh, the soup failed to disappoint, and the teriyaki was great. It’s not my favorite place in the area, but...
