I really do love Maya Fusion Cafe, and honestly, there’s a lot to appreciate here, but they also need some work The menu is extensive. It kind of feels like when you go to a diner and you’re handed a book instead of a menu. I think they’d benefit from narrowing it down a bit so they can focus on perfecting a smaller set of standout dishes. That said, the food we tried was solid. The pupusas revueltas were delicious, the pollo and carne tostadas hit the spot, and the tamales de elote were fluffy and satisfying. The baleadas were good too, though I wish they made them with refried beans instead of whole pinto beans to really bring it together. Portion size was HUGE for a $5 Baleada! The banana milkshake is a must. Thick, creamy, and flavorful. And I appreciate that they accept cards (a plus in Bushwick), but they should definitely highlight the fact that you get a slight discount if you pay in cash. Only a couple real gripes: • Service is super slow, even when the place isn’t packed. • Automatic gratuity is added to the bill, which I’m never a huge fan of—especially if it’s not mentioned clearly up front. • It took a FOREVER to get our food, and communication could’ve been a bit smoother. On the flip side, prices are very reasonable for the amount of food you get—especially the lunch specials and weekly menu deals. The portion sizes are NO JOKE. I’ll definitely be back and hope to see some small improvements. Maya has serious potential to be amazing if they tighten up the menu, speed up service, and fine-tune a few other details.

This place is a hidden gem. I only discovered it by googling tacos near me. At first it looked a little sketchy because it’s a small place on the corner and it was basically completely empty. But I decided to dine there anyway. Outside of course because covid is still bossing us around. I ordered a chicken taco, carne asada taco, bean and cheese pupusas, fully loaded chicken nachos, red sangria, and a piña colada! Now I know what you’re thinking … how could I eat all of this at once… I didn’t. I went for lunch and dinner. Everything was sooo delicious!!! So delectable and full of flavor!!! And then topping it off with their homemade spicy red sauce and green sauce made it even that much more tasty. I will definitely be going back to taste more of their menu.

Was in complete disbelief with the service we received this evening. After placing an order at 5:44 pm, we were advised the food would be delivered no later then 6:45 pm. Our food did not show up until after 8:00 pm. Not only did that happen, but when notified that the order was incorrect the gentleman who answered the phone became argumentative when I explained to him how the online system works. When ordering food on Seamless you have the option to select the item and the quantity. I selected two chicken burritos with spices and requested for no cheese yet they still added cheese to one of them. I was more so in total shock when the gentleman tried to argue and accuse me of placing the order with cheese when I knew I did not do it.

Update: We used to frequent this restaurant. However we will not be doing so any longer.

Sadly- the last time we were in, we were charged more than the price stated on the menu for my item. My husband got tacos and they started to charge for the lettuce and tomato and regular toppings, as well as upcharged for certain meats without warning.

This is on top of the fact that they started adding gratuity to the check without warning a while back. My husband always tips well, but when it first happened, ended up almost doubling the price of the meal in the double tip (as he hadn't realized it was already added) and the tax. This time the bill was almost double his calculations again due to the upcharges.

We understand being in a bind with costs, even as a restaurant , but the customers don't always have endless amounts of money either, and charging higher without warning is unacceptable.

We usually buy multiple meals and eat family style, but this time we had to watch our spending and ended up paying just as much as if we had gotten 3 meals to share and take home extra instead of the two we got. The food also ended up being nowhere near as good as other times we went. We are unsure if that was about the cook variance, or if ingredients had to be cut. In the end good customers ended up being lost and the rating decreased.

You are welcome to read the original review and decide for yourself if you want to try it out... but make sure you have extra money just in case.

Original review:

Like any restaurant, the food quality can vary slightly depending on the cook, with some doing certain food better than others. That being said, my husband and I like to frequent this restaurant because the food quality is consistently decent to excellent and it's always a pleasure to visit. We have tried most things on the menu at this point and there are few things I wouldn't recommend... and those are purely due to personal preference. If you're looking for good eats for a decent price that always has good service and consistently has good food, then I highly suggest this venue.

The one thing to note is, also just like anywhere, if possible it is better to eat in than take out. Delivery is never kind to the quality of food, especially if it is meant...

I used to enjoy coming here, but as they say all things come to an end. I was so disappointed my last visit here. We sat outside and waited at the least half hour to order. Then a wasp happened, ik they can't control the bees but we were being chased by a wasp so we took it inside. And in doors after we ordered where full of flies. They had the front door open with the AC on and it was hot. So apart from being a bit hot from the summer 🥵 heat we were fighting away the flies as we ate. We waited well over half an hour to be served. So many disgusting flies all shapes and sizes. Trying to land on our food. We did call over the staff and relayed the message of the flies and the only lady server said we've been telling the owner over and over. They had no zappers for the flies or any way to keep them out. Totally disappointed with this place now. How about in the kitchen where we can't see the food being prepped. I can only imagine the flies on the food as it already seemed they could care less. I actually felt like calling the dept of health and still do. Food taste authentic but not worth the wait nor inconvenience of batting aways flies that shouldn't be in there in the...
