My fiancé and I went here for dinner as our first date since getting engaged. The entrance was captivating. The entire layout and atmosphere were welcoming for multiple moods and dining/ drinking options. The lighting was well lit but dimmed in the right areas that provided more atmosphere and privacy for us to dine.
We were given two complementary glasses of white wine to celebrate our engagement which set the warm mood on a very cold night.
We had the “guacamole and chips” as an appetizer and it was a delicious recipe that was balanced and fresh. I ordered the “carne asada tacos” with skirt steak, guacamole and spring onions.
The skirt stake was a nice red with so much flavor and was nicely tender. My fiancé had the “pollo a la parrilla tacos” the grilled chicken, avocado slices, pico de gallo, and avocado sauce were a great combination. We traded one of the tacos and both were very pleased with the flavors. The chicken was juicy and the pico added a lot of zest.
The managers and staff were kind and welcoming they were always tentative with the service and were in great spirits. Our glasses stayed full the whole visit and our table was clean and after finishing each dish. The patrons around us were also having a great time in various areas of the restaurant which showed me I could come in for many different occasions and feel accommodated by the venue. The bar at the front had dining but the best spot to sit and wait for an Uber after dessert was at the warm entrance high tops that had pillows along the booth.
The tableware was from a local home good store named “InCasa” which was a nice touch to see this new business supporting the other businesses in the neighborhood from the start.
Last thing I’d like to mention is the “pastel de datile” This cake was made of dates and the ice cream was actually a whipped cream that was made to resemble a scoop of ice cream. Not too sweet and good size for 2 people after being full from the entrees. It’s also a somewhat healthier option for those being mindful of high sugars.
We can’t wait to bring our friends in for our next visit and share this new...
Read moreMayaheul was our choice after watching à great off Broadway show named Sancocho.. We were greeted nicely at the door and had to wait à few minutes at the beautiful bar for our table to be ready.. Not a problem because we were parched. I had " La Perfecta" which was made with Mezcal , pineapple peppercorn simple syrup, lemon, and habanero bitters. Delicious! My friend had a Michelada and another the Mayahuel with vodka instead of tequila and Mezcal. Once our table was ready we were seated and greeted by our lovely and professional waiter. We started with nachos with all the meats, chorizo, chicken, and steak! Let me tell you, it was finger licking great! The nachos were perfectly crispy even underneath all the meat, cheese, and beans. The meats were perfectly seasoned. Each bite was heavenly. My mouth is watering as I write. We couldn't stop eating. Granted, we were starving. It was 10pm after all. We then ordered steak tacos, shrimp tacos and guacamole, and chips plus more drinks. We were parched, remember ?(don't judge) The shrimp was so fresh and delicately seasoned. We loved each plate of food and drinks. The only downside was that we didn't want to leave, and they turned on the lights, letting us know that we didn't have to go home, but we had to leave the establishment. Bummer! So what if it was midnight? Whatever! Next time we'll arrive earlier. I'm definitely coming back, and I...
Read moreMayahuel just didn't meet the expectation. I had spotted this location while walking around the neighborhood and decided to try it. I even checked the menu before hand, found it to be interesting and honestly everything sounded delicious. Sadly, in reality the food missed the mark.
To start, we ordered drinks and 2 appetizers. The Guacamole was good. It was tasty. The Elote was too watery and underseasoned. I expected some wateriness but this was soupy. Portions were small from beginning to end.
Drinks. A lot like the food, they were described beautifully. Dissappointing. Pre-mixed batch drinks maybe? Just no.
Entrees. Enchiladas suizas. Essentially, Salsa Verde Mush. The chicken inside the tortilla was underseasoned, had chewy rubbery skin on it and pieces of cartilage. My partner had the fish tacos. At first bite, it was tasty. After that the oiliness from the fish was too much. Combined with the spicy mayo dressing on the tacos, it made the dish too greasy and heavy.
Service was standard. Their suggested tips based on the overpriced food seemed so wrong. But I guess that's the point.
I can appreciate the attempt at an elevated mexican type of place. I'd confidently say it's a fail. There's nothing worse for patrons than to expect so much gets so little, literally and figuratively. Hope they continue to improve because the concept and ideas...
