This low-key Thai restaurant has quietly earned recognition, being featured in the Michelin Guide for two years in a row since its opening. Nestled on a quiet street in the East Village, MayRee offers a homey and authentic Southern Thai cuisine.
In my opinion, most Thai restaurants in NYC are either "good" or "very good," and MayRee easily falls into the "very good" category, with its delicious food, drinks, and warm service.
*Park Mor $15 ** I always order park mor, a sweet peanut steamed dumpling, whenever I spot it on the menu, as it's a rare find. It quickly became our favorite dish of the night. The chewy dumpling skin encased a peanut filling that was crunchy, sweet and savory. The dumplings were also beautifully presented in shades of blue and white.
*Somtum $16 My all-time favorite thai appetizer. Crunchy, tangy and refreshing. Be warned—they really mean it when they say "medium spicy".
*Kaeng Phed Ped $31** We've had crispy duck curry at several Thai spots, and this one served the most tender duck by far. The curry was addictive, with pineapple, lychee, and cherry tomatoes simmered in the rich and spicy curry sauce. We couldn’t stop digging into the dish—it was that delicious.
*Pad Mee Kati $27 It was a southern thai style sautéed vermicelli noodles, topped with lump crab meat and omelette. Not only was it picture-perfect, but it was also absolutely delicious. I especially enjoyed the thin, chewy noodles.
*Fried Ice Cream $12 Undoubtedly a showstopper. I was stunned to see the ice cream not melting in the fried ice cream! It was coated in breadcrumbs, garnished with coconut flakes and chocolate drizzle. Then the server set it aflame, turning it into a mini fire show. The crust did have a taste of alcohol for the flaming purpose, and was a tad too thick for my liking.
*Lychee Thai Tea $6 Very refreshing and served with real lychee. Less heavy than an actual thai iced tea because it didn’t have milk in it.
*Prysob (Mekhong rum, mango, lime, honey) $17 Our server strong recommended this cocktail to us. It was served with a slice of dried mango. Sweet and tropical. I personally disliked alcohol, but this drink was so smooth and sweet that I would have thought it was...

Our recent dining experience at Mayree was nothing short of revolting. Despite the promising ambiance and seemingly appetizing menu, our meal was overshadowed by a shocking discovery: a cockroach crawling on our table as we were finishing our meal.
The presence of a cockroach in a supposedly reputable establishment is completely unacceptable and reflects poorly on the restaurant's hygiene standards. Not only did it completely ruin our appetite, but it also left us feeling disgusted and questioning the cleanliness of the entire establishment.
To make matters worse, when we brought this issue to the attention of the staff, their response was lackluster and dismissive. Instead of showing genuine concern and taking immediate action to rectify the situation, they merely offered a half-hearted apology and seemed more concerned with brushing off the incident rather than addressing it appropriately.
As paying customers, we expect a certain level of cleanliness and hygiene when dining out, and finding a cockroach on our table is a clear violation of that expectation. This experience has left us with a lasting negative impression of [Restaurant Name], and we will not be returning nor recommending it to anyone else until they address their sanitation issues and take proactive measures to ensure that such incidents do not occur again in the future.
In conclusion, our dining experience at Mayree was marred by the presence of a cockroach on our table, highlighting significant hygiene concerns and a lack of proper management response. Steer clear unless you have a strong stomach and low expectations for...
