Rafael on the Upper East Side is a Mediterranean gem that delights the palate with its vibrant flavors. The hummus is exceptionally creamy, embodying authentic Middle Eastern taste. The Chicken Ba Tanur, oven-roasted to perfection and served with mashed potatoes, glazed carrots, and za’atar butter sauce, is a standout, offering a harmonious blend of spices and tenderness that leaves a lasting impression. The intimate ambiance enhances the dining experience, making Rafael a must-visit for those seeking a refined yet unpretentious meal.

We had the best meal at Rafael today!! We were 6 people for brunch. We each ordered different things and we each loved our food. So fresh and delicious! But just before we left we overhead the waiter talking to another table about how the restaurant is transitioning into another location for "Miriam" with a different menu. NO!!!!!!! First of all we loved this menu. Second restaurants are never as good once they start expanding. We literally left sad to hear that this was going to be both our first and last time at Rafael.

This restaurant is a fantastic addition to the UES. The service is warm and welcoming, making you feel right at home. The Mediterranean food is incredible—fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. From the hummus to the grilled dishes, everything is spot on. The décor is stunning, with Mediterranean-inspired touches that create a cozy, inviting atmosphere. Whether for a casual dinner or a special night out, this place is a must-visit. We’ll definitely be back!

The food is great but the service was so bad i won’t be returning. We walked in at 6:30 on a Sunday and restaurant was empty but the manager gave us a stressed out face saying they were sooo booked starting in half an hour but he could squeeze us in at a small table. Lo and behold a bunch of people cancelled and we were fine. Even though the restaurant was never full it somehow took 45 minutes for the hummus to come out. We had to ask twice and the waiter looked confused. Our entrees took so long one member of our party had to leave and take hers to go before getting to eat. They were inattentive and ridiculously slow with the food, meanwhile the manager found time to sip from an espresso martini he had at the bar. Given how egregiously long it took to get our food (they apologized multiple times) I expected the bill to perhaps be edited to reflect the wait but they dropped off the full bill unceremoniously. I’d maybe order takeout but I would...

I walked past this place, read the great reviews, and immediately added it to my list to try. It looks aesthetic, and the Mediterranean menu looking appealing.

However, I came here for dinner and beyond the food being just rather average for very above average prices, I got sick while still at the restaurant from the chicken (food poisoning), and just as we were leaving we saw a rat run across from a wall of the enclosed fully-walled-off back terrace space to the center of the dining area, turn around, and run back.

Safe to say I won’t be returning. As an added bonus, the cocktail I ordered on the recommendation of the server tasted solely of very very cheap tequila — to the point where I didn’t even drink it past one sip. I left feeling genuinely confused about the...

A spectacular mid-eastern restaurant has arrived to the UES. The eponymous chef/owner Rafael is a perfectionist as demonstrated by his culinary masterpieces. We started with the excellent Fig and Beet salad and the best Falafel we ever had. Our mains were grilled-to -perfection Dorado and an amazing, and new to us, Corn Shnitzel. The desserts were freshly conjured and incredibly delicious: Tahini Brulee and Custard tart. The final act was from a computerized cappuccino machine that ground the beans and created perfect froth with only the slightest human input. And as you would expect in this type of establishment, the service...
