Being an SF native, I was excited to see Dutch crunch finally make its way over to NY. I’ve been holding off on coming here since it opened bc of the prices. After hearing they now offer a “small” which is essentially the size of a regular sandwich at half the price I decided to give it a go.

The Dutch bread was solid, they nailed that one. But the sandwich had way too much mayo that it overpowered the flavor, I couldn’t really taste the flavors of the sauces etc. also way too much lettuce. Next time I’ll ask for light on the Mayo and hope that makes a difference.

The spot definitely has its own personality and gives off SF vibes, which is what their goal seems to be given the name Mission ( SF has a famous district called the Mission). I did think it was quite tacky that they ripped off Ikes Sandwiches a bit too much. If you’re from the Bay Area or been there, you probably know of Ikes sandwiches, it’s an SF staple and one of the OG who made Dutch bread big in SF and around Cali now. Their best seller is the Matt Cain sandwich, and I noticed this place has a sandwich called Mr Cain that includes the exact same meats. Ikes also became known for its play on celebrity / athlete names on its sandwiches, and I’ve noticed Mission social does the same thing. Lastly, one thing that made Ikes different when they first opened in 2007 was they included lollipops with their sandwiches, which Mission social does as well. No coincidence imo. I give them some credit for creativity with the boxes etc but.. don’t just rip off another business...

~3.5 stars, rounded up

stopped at Mission Sandwich Social and picked up a “Gobbler.” the flavors were really good — turkey, provolone, onions, bacon, lettuce, tomato, & mayo on Dutch Crunch sub roll. the sub gives you that Thanksgiving feeling + extra flavors and textures like bacon and melted provolone. almost picked up a sandwich here a year ago when it first opened but decided to wait until the hype died down. and i am glad i did.

ordered a “small” which is half of full sub. people talk about how huge these sandwiches are BUT they really are not that big whether you get a “small” or a “large” which is a full sub. the lettuce ends up being a lot of filler (almost too much) and the amount of premium ingredients end up being what you get at any sandwich shop or deli. also for the price, Mission’s sandwiches ain’t that big—like most “small” sandos range from $13-$16 and “larges” $21-$25. there are a number of sandwich destinations that serve huge sandwiches and their offerings are larger than Mission’s and their prices are often less.

overall, Mission combines flavors and ingredients really well imo and gets creative with the types of ingredients across its menu. the ingredients are quality. though i am not sure why people rave about Mission’s bread—it’s good but not really mind-blowing, considering the premium prices of the subs.

the service is almost friendly but kinda curt. like one would expect a more lively vibe, but it’s really its customers that...

This is about a Doordash order! I never write reviews but today(1/21/2024) the staff working at Mission Social Stressed me out!

I placed an order on Doordash around 12:30pm for two(2) sub sandwiches. Around 1:20 I suspected that I didn't add in their magnificent garlic sauce, so in a frantic hurry I called MS hoping to rectify the problem. On the 3RD ring a man picks up the phone and I proceed to tell him how I forgot to add in Garlic Sauce as an option so can you guys please add it on the side and please charge my card extra as well if there is a fee. After about 10 secs of silence, the man behind the phone told me that wasn't possible. So I kept insisting to see if they may help me out after asking so much, but no the answer was a strong no. I procced to say its okay for me to spend $53 for two sandwiches but nobody in the whole store is willing to help me get garlic sauce on the side and I was willing to pay extra. They're whole thing was to call Doordash and ask them to help even though i know its possible for stores to charge your card after the order has been made. FOOD is great, but the people that work there aren't nice or helpful.

ALL IN ALL STOP BEING SO MONEY HUNGRY AND GREEDY RESTAURANTS. I understand we all have protocol but Garlic Sauce on the side will never hurt...

HUGE, MASSIVE but amazing sandwiches

I ordered the STEVE BYRNE. A bulgogi sandwich, amazing looking forward it. Bulgogi is delicious right so say no more. It was great on its own (but I wonder if its made in house). The sandwich also had kimchi, cool. A good pair. Then it also had french fries which is ok, maybe neither here nor there (brings nothing to the table). And then there's lettuce which seemed strange since the sandwich already had kimchi (maybe to fill space). The crisp refreshing bite of the lettuce contrasted in a bad way with the fermented kimchi. Then what really throws everything into chaos is the ranch. My palate has never been so confused before. The creaminess of the ranch did not compliment the bulgogi or the kimchi in any way. The combo upset my stomach. The bread was good but you would hope so since it's made in house. Oh, and mozzarella belongs no where on this sandwich. And apparently there's rice wine vinaigrette and scallions on it. Couldn't taste the vinaigrette and if I didn't see the scallions, I would have never known about them. The flavors on this sandwich together are just an abomination. It's like they had random left over ingredients and decided to slap em on a sandwich. For ~$28 (including tax) go get the hanger steak at St. Anselm. At least there you won't be disappointed for the price.
