Today I tried their Danish Cheesecake which I found very disappointing. Its flavor was dominated by the fruit topping. It had no recognizable flavor of cheese. Below the fruit topping was a soft WHITE substance whose TEXTURE reminded me of the TEXTURE of yellow curd found in a lemon meringue pie, which is far from the TEXTURE of cheese. On another day, I tried their pumpkin muffin ($5.45). It did not have enough pumpkin flavor to be pleasing to me. A week later I tried their seasonal, large, heart shape chocolate covered gingerbread cookie ($6.95), which I felt had almost no taste of gingerbread. It was like eating a piece of dark chocolate. I like their hot oatmeal ($6.50) served from their opening until 11 a.m. It is offered with or without dry fruit. Pictured below, next to a container of oatmeal, is a rye bread roll with pumpkin seeds. With the pumpkin seeds on both sides of the roll, they dominate the flavor of the rye bread roll. I bought it because I was curious to find out whether I like pumpkin seeds. I thought that they were just okay. On another day I tried their "Copenhagener" ($4.95) which I found extremely disappointing. I like poppy seeds, so, with all of them on top of the Copenhagener, I was sure that I would like it. I found that it had virtually no flavor, including the poppy seeds. I was told that it was supposed to have an almond paste inside it, I...
Read moreOle & Steen is a charming boutique coffee shop notable for its mid-century modern aesthetic, which contributes to a sophisticated atmosphere. We initially sampled the carrot cake muffin. While the cream cheese topping was excellent, the muffin itself was somewhat dry and lacked flavor. Although I understand a muffin may differ from a slice of carrot cake, I believe there is room for improvement in this item. Noticing a popular item on the menu, I decided to try the "Chocolate Social," a semi-sweet chocolate babka. It features layers of twisted bread infused with chocolate, both within the dough and on the top, resulting in a very enjoyable treat. I highly recommend this item for anyone visiting. Additionally, their coffee was fresh, with a bold, rich flavor and a smooth, non-bitter profile. The establishment was clean, and the staff was friendly. I would recommend giving this place a try...
Read moreI visited this cafĂ© today and had a very disappointing experience. I bought a loaf of bread, and when asked if I wanted it sliced, I clearly said yes. Another staff member then picked it up and asked me again, âintact?ââwhich confused me, since I wasnât sure if they meant slicing but keeping everything in one bag or something else. I politely asked, âwhat do you mean?â
Instead of clarifying, the female staff who first helped me shook her head and mocked me by repeating âwhat do you meanâ in a low, sarcastic tone. Not only was this unprofessional, it was also disrespectful. A simple explanation or assistance to her colleague would have been the proper response.
Customers should not be made to feel stupid for asking a clarifying question, especially when staff communication is unclear. This experience left a very negative impression of the...
