Kun Tsuki Omakase Xtra is easily one of the best omakase experiences I’ve had in NYC especially for the price. An 18-course omakase with free unlimited sake for $85 feels almost too good to be true, but it absolutely delivers. The intimate 12-seat counter makes the meal feel extra personal, and watching the chefs meticulously prepare each piece adds to the experience.
From the first bite, I could tell how much thought went into the menu. The toro was incredibly rich and buttery and the lightly torched wagyu nigiri just melted in my mouth. Each piece was perfectly balanced, with well-seasoned rice that complemented the flavors rather than overpowering them. The quality of the ingredients was top-notch, and the pacing of the meal was just right—not too rushed, but never leaving me waiting too long.
One thing I really appreciated was the free-flowing sake that came with the meal. They do advertise it on the door and in person, but it’s not brought out automatically since some people don’t drink. But as soon as I asked, they served it right away. It was a nice touch that made the experience feel even more generous and well thought-out.
The service was excellent—attentive without being overbearing. The chefs and staff were friendly - they genuinely wanted guests to enjoy the meal, not just turn tables quickly.
For $85, this omakase is an absolute steal. The quality, service, and experience made it feel like something that should cost twice as much. If you’re looking for a high-quality yet an affordable omakase in NYC, Kun Tsuki is well-recommended. I’m already looking forward...
Read moreFeel very bad to leave negative review but this omakase is not worth the price or your time. Let’s brake it: Quality of fish quite subpar. Selection of fish nothing special. Appreciate the free sake but not every one drinks, so… $85 is a bit overprice. Most of the fish pieces were torched which takes away from the taste of fish! Why?? Why would you torch a beautiful salmon??? Course design- why would you serve miso soup towards the end of the course in between fatty tuna and eel??? The course advertises 2 apps. What you actually get is one appetizer but two pieces of the same. So please, do state one appetizer. If you decide to serve two pieces of the same that is not qualified as two appetizer courses. You suppose to get 18 omakase courses. And for whatever reason we got 17 and miso soup. Nope, the cost of miso soup is not qualified as fish course (even if has a head of shrimp in it - quite weird that this huge had is floating there). The dessert - raspberry filling some kinda red velvet. Not sure it supports the Japanese cuisine expectation.
Oh, and miso soup was served together with tuna piece so basically you had to gobble both… not a good coordination between the sushi chef and kitchen.
I know this cute place is lovely, clean, and welcoming and is still working through their menu and setting, but it does not look promising if you can’t deliver the most basic omakase course. Again, free alcohol is a nice perk but only for people that consume it.
Good luck! I hope it corrects these kinks and city gets another strong...
Read moreRUN do not walk to this spot! I was randomly looking for a new omakase spot nearby that I haven’t tried and found this place. I cannot stress enough how this was the BEST value for your money omakase. It rivals some of my favorite spots in the city, but at a much more reasonable price tag!
The chef really works on curating an omakase menu based on seasonal ingredients and seafood that are freshest! It also helps by keeping a unique experience so that the next time you visit, you will probably be tasting something different.
I was definitely blown away by the attention to detail and the creativity of the chef! One example was the a5 wagyu was topped with shaved (macadamia or hazel I can’t remember) nut. It was such an interesting flavor, but it paired so well that you wouldn’t even know how good it would be until you try it!
I am highly recommending this place for anyone interested in trying a high quality omakase at a very reasonable price point! They even offer a $45 omakase lunch from Friday to Sunday I believe. Do not hesitate to try this spot. You will not be...
