I'm not from around the area and I was looking for a bite to eat. Entered Rocky's Pizzeria and was glad to see the different varieties of pizza they had out. The young man behind the counter however was not very sociable, and as I asked him questions about their pizza all he could say was "I don't know I don't eat here" I finally decides on a deep dish slice of pizza with what looked like chicken cutlet on top. It was ok not anything to brag about. The next day I had a craving for shrimps (Yum, my favorite) so I called Rocky's pizza and ordered shrimp scampi with a side order of fettuccine Alfredo and garlic bread with mozzarella cheese. 1st of all the guy who picked up the phone didn't speak english so well so I had to speak in spanish and in regards to the food the shrimps were too salty, the fettuccine wasnt that soft and the alfredo sauce was not creamy. The garlic bread with Mozzarella cheese was the best part of the meal. In all I rate the meal 2 stars. As I said before their food is ok but nothing grand I have definately had better...
Read moreThe name plays well into my ensuing review - as "#2" was a not-too-unfair metaphor for our delivered pizza.
We had a late lunch at Piacere's and so, understandably, we were a bit "peckish" in the room (we're out-of-towners here for the marathon) and yelped to find decently reviewed pizza delivery outfits close to us. Rocky's came up and so we called. We ordered a large spinach and mushroom and expected non-canned mushrooms and cooked-on-the-pizza spinach. Alas, it wasn't to be.
Rather, we got what was likely a "on-standby" pre-fabbed cheese pizza with canned/sliced mushrooms AND what seemed to be cooked/canned spinach.
We're certainly not complaining about the volume of food. There was ample spinach (think seaweed strewn across a beach of pizza - with the occasional conch shell (mushroom) interspersed. Look at the picture and judge for yourself.
It's also possible that dine-in fares fare...
Read moreI'm a devout DiFara pizza guy with the occasional trip to Grimaldi's, both Brooklyn pizza meccas. I'd never even heard of Rocky's Pizzaria, started by the great middleweight boxer Rocky Grazziano. It has a brick oven and slices of various types ready to go along with all the standard Italian staples done to perfection. It was so good that I went back the next day to pick up one slice of Buffalo chicken pizza for an out-of-town friend who had lost it when they wouldn't let her bring it into "The Book of Mormon." That slice cost me an extra $5.50 for the subway and an extra hour of my time, that should be an indication of how good it was. They have several seats on the front but on the back there is a decent sized sitting area...they also have beer. All in all, a truly great pizza shop. Doesn't beat DiFara's but it'll do when I'm trapped...
