Tacos & Tequila — Restaurant in New York

We really enjoyed our meal at Tacos & Tequila. We came here on a Saturday night as we wanted a local Mexican spot.

Ambiance: The restaurant looks a lot smaller than it actually is. There is a back section that is very cutely decorated and feels very in theme with a Mexican spot.

Drinks: They have a lot of drink options and they are definitely strong drinks. Our margaritas were very reasonably priced and considering they were strong and also delicious, we had no complaints. They also have "large" size drinks. We didn't try it this time but plan to the next time we go back. My husband also commented that he loves places that will give you a iced beer glass. He was very happy when he got his bottle of beer but then had an iced glass to pour it into.

Food: The menu is very extensive and there are a lot of different food options. As a vegetarian I was very impressed with the amount of veggie options that existed. They also had soyrizo, veggie tinga, and veggie pastor. I have yet to find all three at any Mexican spot in the city. I could not have been happier with all the options to pick from. The food was delicious and tasted fresh. We had the flautas, tostadas, and street tacos. All three entrees were well seasoned and tasted great. They also gave us salsas and one of them was so perfectly spicy, I was happy.

Service: The staff was very nice and considerate. Service was fast but we never felt rushed. The food did take a while to come out but after tasting it I understood it's because everything is fresh and made only after an order is placed.

This place simply doesn't care. The food is decent but it's obvious that they don't care for their customers and that really sucks. I placed an order for two burritos and some fries. Total came out to $50, I know at this point that the price for tacos and tequila is a bit higher than average, I've never complained. Well tonight i was craving some fries with the order and saw that the price was $9 and change for a side of fries. i said "ok no worries I'm sure it's at least worth it." i pickup the order and the fries are half an ounce of microwaved crinkle cut fries. I was baffled. Regardless, i was sure if i reached out to my server that maybe they'd care and at least top me off with some more fries or offer a refund. I went back to the restaurant and they wanted nothing to do with the order. No explanation except "thats what you get for $9"

I simply won't come back.

Edit: A manager called me back and offered to give me an order of fries on my next visit. I appreciated Nayeli being understanding that it wasn’t really about the fries but rather the care for customers that really...

We are regulars at Tacos and Tequila, mainly because the food is good. We always get the ceviche and the 3 street tacos. However, they need to make some changes if they want 5 stars.

First, the restaurant is not a club, so they should not be playing loud, club music in the back room which is the only place with comfortable seating / tables in the cold weather. Low, mexican themed music would be better.

Second, on a slow night, there is no excuse for not seeing the waiter for 10 minutes after getting your appetizer. We get they have take-out orders, but if they want patrons to come in, they need to pay attention.

Third, don't be chintzy on the tortilla chips, which are the cheapest thing to provide. If I order an expensive ceviche appetizer, then give me enough chips to accompany them. Don't make me pay another $3 to get what should have been provided with the appetizer in the first place. Most Mexican restaurants give you as much chips as you want, no charge.

I'll still go back, but we are moving soon and if they don't fix things, we won't make it a point...
