This is a very cute restaurant. My friend and I stumbled across this spot because we were in the area. Walked in, was slowly greeted and immediately told us that they only take cash and venmo/zelle. I was like “okay…. let us sit down first” but we had cash so it worked out. The kitchen is also cater corner to the entrance so it was good to see/hear/smell food being cooked in real time. We ordered our food, it came right out, hot and smelling delicious. It 100% tasted as good as it smelled. I wish I had room to eat it all because it was that good but they packed the leftovers for me while my friend scarfed hers down. All in all I would definitely come back here for another meal. I was very pleased with the side of veggies not being smothered in a sauce. It was steamed and still green. I took off a star for atmosphere because between the sign in the bathroom directing us to throw toilet paper in the trash and tape on the seats, I can tell this spot could use a facelift. Other than that I would definitely suggest others come visit...
Read moreThai Cafe is one of the best Thai restaurants in Greenpoint, but since Covid their pricing has become absurd. I ordered a large plate of plain steamed broccoli -- no sauce, no meat-- and with tax they charged me $15.19 (!!!? A single side order of broccoli is listed at $6.00 on their menu. If I had ordered two side orders it would only have been $12, plus tax. Chicken and broccoli is listed on their menu at $13.95 (plus tax)- a very reasonable price for chicken and broccoli. But why they would charge more for plain broccoli than for a dish with that includes chicken is a mystery. I called to speak with someone at Thai Cafe about this, and she justified her pricing. I have been gogint to Thai cafe for over 15 years, it is very sad that they are taking advantage of their loyal customers...

Then the young bohemians started coming, and Thai Cade got so busy they opened another by the L train. Not sure if the owners are different now. But those days were special. Now I look at the google map and the area has transformed so much I wish I had bought my apartment building!! Enjoy, and respect the people that were...
