The Gyro Project surpassed all my expectations for a fast casual joint! I came on a busy Thursday evening, and every table was packed. The line moves quickly and offerings are constantly being rotated by staff. My friends and I opted for the bowls and we loved every bite! The assembly line is similar to other fast casual joints like Sweetgreen or Cava, but the flavors are incredible.
I got the salmon and was impressed by how tender and well-seasoned it was. The falafel was also a highlight and I was really glad to see vegetarian options. The bowl base comes with rice or purple cabbage slaw and lettuce. Then you go on to pick a protein, two sauces and two side dishes. The spicy feta and babaghanoush were perfect and I loved the cucumber tomato salad and stewed gigante broad beans!
The meal was great but the unique highlights were the deconstructed baklava served with frozen Greek yogurt. I would come back for that alone! It was out of this world! Also loved the bougatsa custard dessert with cinnamon and phyllo.
This place is a gem in NYC and will definitely be a popular lunch and dinner spot. The staff was warm and friendly despite the many people pouring in the whole night and the ambiance was really nice too. I wish these were all over the city—Upper West Side is truly blessed to have this...
Read moreThe best meal I’ve had in a long time. The ambiance is wonderful. Super friendly and helpful staff. The owner comes around to make sure you are enjoying your meal and treats you like family. They also play fun and upbeat music, but not too loud, you can still have a normal conversation during your meal.
The presentation of the food is beautiful and the food is very fresh. I usually feel sluggish and get heartburn after every meal, but I ate an entire bowl, fries and a mini spinach pie, plus dessert…. and I felt amazing and energized. You can tell the quality of the food is impeccable and they don’t use any seed oils, only EVOO and avocado oil. Also the food is very reasonably priced for the quality and portion size you are getting.
The chicken shawarma was seasoned to perfection and the beef & lamb gyro was juicy and flavorful. The OG fries (with feta) and TGP sauce were delicious and not greasy like most other fries. Definitely make sure to leave room for dessert. The deconstructed baklava Greek yogurt froyo was sweet and tangy and the lemon blueberry cookie and orange pie melts in your mouth. I couldn’t resist ordering half the menu and will definitely be back next time I’m in the city. I’m hoping they open a Brooklyn location soon so I can come back more often to try the...
Read moreMy review is mainly on the poor hygiene practices. I visited the location in the UWS a few times and noticed that all staff members don't change gloves when handling our meals. They use the same gloves to touch our food, the utensils, the bowls, the receipts, the counter top and serving spoons. I don't understand how you literally touch our food (e.g. chicken shawarma, pita bread, Lemon potatoes) with the exact same gloves that you use to touch everything else! Then of course, these same gloves are used to wrap our meals and we are handed a food-stained bowl or wrap because of course the same gloves are used and not changed. I wouldn't be this fussy if they actually served all our food with serving spoons, but the fact that they actually touch your food with the same gloves they touch everything else is really disgusting. I'm also not going to comment on the rude attitude of staff at the cash register and frozen yogurt station, it seems that this has already been addressed by so many other people. The prices are also insane for such a...
