I recently visited The Mandarin for the first time with high expectations, but unfortunately, I was left disappointed by the service. According to the signs, which I admittedly missed, you can only use your laptop in half of the cafe—fine. I was asked not to use my laptop since I wasn’t seated in the co-working half—also fine.
I didn’t question this request at the time because I expected that the same rule would be applied to the other customer who was using her laptop as well. Instead, she was never asked to stop. It is worth mentioning that both customers who were using their laptops without an issue, were white. It can get fairly crowded during peak hours and despite relatively ample seating by NY standards, it will sometimes feels like there’s too little space for the amount of patrons. The staff are friendly and kind, and they make the drinks quite quickly and keep the place tidy. It is a bit confusing to get things such as napkins or utensils as they aren't readily available, but the staff help make sure its all given to you in a timely manner.
