I took on @devourpower in @grubhub Borough Battles to see which borough has the best fried chicken sandwich. I chose my neighborhood favorite @penrosebar in Manhattan. It is the most perfect, juicy, crispy fried chicken sandwich you will ever taste. You can order your favorite through @grubhub today. Tell me what you think in the comments and use my code NYCDATE to get $5 off your order of $10+. #GHBoroughBattles #GrubhubPartner #ad

We were running errands in the UES and was lured into @thepnewyork by the restaurant’s beautiful outdoor terrace that is covered with hanging flowers and vines. We went right at opening and half an hour later, the whole restaurant was full! All the dishes and cocktails were very colorful and beautiful. Favorite dish was the Shrimp Pineapple Fried Rice that is served in a real pineapple. — #thaifoodnyc #uppereastsidenyc #thaicurry #sataychicken

The Penrose is a quaint little bar located in the Upper East Side of Manhattan and we found ourselves here after totally pigging out at Le Vain Bakery a couple of blocks away. We placed reservations via OpenTable because we weren't sure what the crowd would look like and we were placed on a 2-top with plastic dividers between us and the next table. Our server was sweet albeit very hands-off but we didn't really need a lot of table touching so we weren't all too frustrated over it. PENROSE SPRITZ - $15 -- great bevvie and everything blended really well! Definitely one of those cocktails that'll sneak up on you if you're not too careful. 10/10 would order again BELLS 'TWO HEARTED' IPA - $8 -- I can't remember if there was a happy hour deal for this but the boyfriend can't possibly describe this as anything but delicious for his IPA-craving soul. FRIED PICKLES - $10 -- always a crowd pleaser and may have even converted my anti-pickle partner thanks to the delicious chipotle aioli sauce it came with! The pickles were perfectly fried and I absolutely enjoyed every bit of it. HANDCUT FRIES - $8 -- you can't go wrong with these! Just get one of these and down a couple of beers and it's the perfect midway snack before dinner. Overall, while we were fortunate to have stumbled upon this place during our visit I can't say that this would necessarily be a place I'd go back to again. With so many options in Manhattan, it's worth checking out at least once but I would easily pass it on my next trip to the Big Apple.

Best fried chicken sandwich in a while (space and time!) I load it up - cheese, bacon, and avocado as a minimum! But mostly because I'm like that. Update: lukewarm! Not changing my stars but last night at the Penrose was a little surprising. My friend and I were refused seating under the heated lamps under the guise that there was a reservation, which did show up and under the guise that 2 people couldn't sit at a 4 seat table. Yup on NYE when I was just sampling their amazing friend chicken sandwich. By the time we left there were 3 empty seating areas, 2 four seaters and 1 two seater and other patrons were still left out in the cold. It was surprising to see that this is how patrons would be treated even in the cold, during a pandemic, on NYE and when there were empty spaces available. I know things are tough at restaurants these days but that seemed like a real lack of compassion and customer care last night. And if you're wondering, the hot toddy came out warm; after I sent it back, it came out warmer. It be would have been nice to get a piping got drink esp when I couldn't really keep my fingers warm while waiting for a chicken sandwich. Happy to report that the fried chicken sandwich is good even when it's lukewarm!
