First impression, love the vibe.
I came here randomly after two doctors appointments. I needed to eat some good food and wooosa. It was about 12:30ish and this place had a nice crowd inside.
The Smith and the restaurant to the left seem to blend into eachother, same color on the outside of the building. It was a little difficult to distinguish which was which but just look for the clear glass window on the door with The Smith logo.
The hostest greeted me as soon as I entered. I was immediately taken to a seat. Some of the tables towards the front feel a little awkward but i was thankful to be seated more into the center of the restaurant. I was close to the bar. This restaurant has a beautiful bar with seating, there's table tops, regular tables and booths. I sat at a small round table.
I ordered The Gatsby drink. Actually love it. You can def taste the gin but the sparkling wine def stands out. The Pomegranate, hibiscus and lemon flavor is very very light but its there and delish.
For a starter i wanted to try something different and got the Roasted Tomato soup. It was the absolute most amazing thing ever. I am so glad i took a risk and ordered it. I cant wait to return and have this soup again.
I also ended up getting the Smith Bar Steak with salad and chimichurri sauce. The steak was perfectly cooked and well seasoned. The chimichurri sauce had big chopped pieces of fresh herbed which I loved. I got the green salad with it and it was dressed with balsamic vinaigrette, really good.
I pushed myself and got dessert. I was already beyond full BUT my waiter is the best at making the food sound so amazing when he explains what they have. haha. He was the best. I got the sticky toffee pudding. Omg omg omg. I didnt expect that. It was so delicious, soft, sticky and warm. They put a scoop of ice cream on top as well. The entire thing was just soooo good. It was my first time trying it but surely wont be last.
I really enjoyed my time here. Its rare that i visit a restaurant and write a review next day...however this place deserves it. My waiter, Nikolai was the sweetest. He was super knowledgeable on the menu and made really good suggestions. I hope that i get to have him as a waiter again.
The bathrooms are unique. Love the photo booth down stairs. I also love the fact that all stalls are gender neutral and the sinks are outside. It gives the restrooms such a modern feel. Its quite nice to look at.
Again, this place is...
Read moreBooked the Smith - East Village for a post-Thanksgiving family dinner. The service, food, and ambience were exceptional, even more so than other more expensive and/or Michelin starred restaurants that we have been to previously! We had a reservation but our group was running late. Called ahead to update the restaurant and they pushed back our reservation by 15 minutes, despite being busy with the Saturday dinner rush. When we arrived we were greeted cordially and professionally by the hosts, and seated immediately. Since we are a tall family, I asked if it was possible to seat our party at a table with a bench so we had more space instead of at a table in the middle of the floor with high backed chairs. Our waitress was so helpful in checking with the hosting staff and manager to determine if a space was available. We were reassured by the host, the manager, and our waitress that we would be seated at a new table as soon as the previous guests made their exit. The server (whose name I forgot unfortunately) was so sweet and said she was sad to lose us but happy that we are going to a wonderful colleague who would take care of us just as well. The level of care and attention we received before we placed a single order was astounding and so appreciated. Plus, the fact that the staff clearly respected one another and worked well together contributed to our experience!
The dinner that followed was absolutely impeccable. We all ordered a steak dish of some kind: I had the Smith steak which came with wilted baby spinach and fries (I substituted for mashed potatoes no problem) which I enjoyed with glee, along with two glasses of Rioja. The rest of my family either ordered the same or a New York strip steak. The steaks were cooked to perfection according to the temperatures we each requested and the accompanying sauces flavorful and NOT salty, WAY better than steaks I’ve eaten at STK! The cocktails on the table (a Manhattan and a classic margarita) were beautifully crafted, tasty, and strong! Usually new American restaurants tend to be pretty basic, satisfying a wide range of preferences, but not really excelling in either food or drink. However, the Smith completely blew us away! In the spirit of Thanksgiving I would like to thank all the staff at The Smith - East Village, hosts, servers, bussing team, and managers, for elevating our family dinner to a treasured memory and shared experience 😊. Read moreThat was my last time at the smith in east village. We reserved a table outside few days in advance as it used to be one of our favourite places for brunch until Sunday the 17th of November. The first issue was a glass with a lipstick on it. We ordered drinks and entrées and one dish to split. I requested a simple skinny whiskey sour and received something extra sweet that resembled one of their house drinks. The server kindly corrected this. Few minutes later we got our food, where breakfast sandwich was the best dish between fillet mignon and ny strip. Steaks were ordered medium rare, but were brought medium raw with burnt sides and raw middle. Definitely not worth 90-100$. The server was never in sight and was barely available, so we decided to stick with what we already had to avoid further frustration and another 30 minute wait. After server finally showed up I asked her for another whiskey sour and a dessert and I received another sweet premixed drink with a bunch of lime juice on top and then she disappeared for another 15 mins and came back asking if I want another drink, I said no and she gave me our check which I never requested. She put the check on our table and started leaving and I had to ask her “so no dessert for us?”, she acted surprised and asked me if we still wanted it. There were only 2 more tables other than ours on the patio, didn’t know we were taking needed space. I used to be a frequent guest to the smith in all of their locations, but never ever I had situation like that at any restaurant or bar, especially at the smith. The dessert was eventually brought to us 15-20 mins after server tried to get rid of us. Dessert was not included in the check eventually, but I would rather pay for a good...
