So I’ve been frequenting this place for many years because I work in the area. The food is delicious and they get it done pretty fast. Never had an issue till today. I ordered two summer rolls and pad broccoli. I took a bite out of summer roll and all was good. It was delicious. I got one more bite in and that’s when hell broke loose. I bit down on something so hard my tooth rattled. I immediately spit it out and it was a fricken staple? Or some piece of metal. Yes a piece of my tooth came out with it. I immediately took the piece of metal and brought it to them and the manager was apologetic. But he said these things can happen- and refunded me my lunch. Ok. So I left work (lost 7 hours of pay) to go to my dentist as an emergency visit. She took X-rays and showed me where my tooth was cracked. She had to fill it in and told me if it still hurts in 1-2 weeks, we need to do a root canal. I am beyond livid that something like this happened. Yes these things can happen and I know it wasn’t intentional- like if I found a hair in my food, whatever it’s not the end of the world but tuktuk literally cracked my tooth. What if I swallowed that piece of metal and it tore up my esophagus? Or what if this happened to a child? Hopefully my tooth heals and all will be ok- but if I need more treatment, I am bringing my bills to them. Their food is good as long there isn’t anything...
Read moreTuk Tuk (name seems to be derived from the sound that a train makes which ironically is the same way it is said in my native language to describe noise, but this place is larger than it appears and although you can hear light conversations all around you it’s a relatively quiet place!)
First off, the Thai ice tea is one of the best that I have ever had- it has the right degree of flavour and sweetness and the color is vibrant! I have always been a fan of Tom Yum soup for Jays but the one served here has a lighter color but more flavour and a spicey kick!
I ordered drunken noodles aka Pad Kee Mao with mock duck - I think I could have done without the mock duck and it would have tasted equally as good. Usually I order the mock duck to add some texture or flavour but here the noodles with vegetables would have been equally as satisfying!
My friend ordered Kau Gling which is a Thailand original and the spiciest dish served at this establishment. It tasted really good and was definitely spicy, enough to turn red and hot but not enough to sweat - beware she does have a relatively high tolerance for spice!
Overall, in LIC this is currently my favourite Thai place, unless I come across...
Read moreI had visited Tuk Tuk before with a few friends and really enjoyed the experience, so I was excited to bring a different group of friends this time and suggested we dine there on a Friday evening.
The food was good overall — I do regret not ordering the red curry, which I’ve enjoyed in the past. This time, I went with the crispy pork, which wasn’t quite to my taste, but that may have just been a personal preference.
The atmosphere and space were pleasant, but the biggest issue we had was with the service. From the start, we felt rushed — from placing our order to being asked several times if we were done with our dishes. It felt like we were being HURRIED along, even though we didn’t think we were taking unusually long to finish our meal.
At one point, a server came by at least four times to see if they could clear our plates, even though we were still eating. And toward the end, the check was dropped off at our table without us asking for it. I might have understood that if there were people waiting, but the surrounding tables were mostly empty by then.
Overall, while the food and ambiance were nice, the rushed service left us disappointed and made it difficult to fully...
