My friend and I went to Whitmans at 6pm on a Tuesday. Reservations were easy to make online. I would recommend making one because it was pretty popping! The ambiance is like a typical American joint, casual with occasional rowdiness from larger parties.

We got the smash burger ($14), highline hanger burger ($16), bacon, egg and cheese burger ($15), and onion rings ($7). My favorite thing was the hanger burger. The burger was cooked perfectly medium-rare, which has been a rare thing to find these days. The meat was juicy and flavored well and the arugula complemented it nicely. Because the BEC and the smash burger have thinner patties, they end up tasting less juicy but still delicious! I was pleasantly surprised to say that the burgers are worth the price! However, I would pass on the onion rings the next time I return. The breading was not crispy and reminded me of soft shrimp tempura batter. There was also no flavor.

Service was average. Our server did a check back and food came out quickly, despite the restaurant being busy. I would recommend checking out Whitmans if you are looking for a tasty burger and do not want to...

Usually pretty good but this time was a disaster. Went with my wife and our young child. Placed two simple orders with our waiter - Cobb salad with Swiss instead of blue cheese, and a burger cooked medium, side of sweet potato fries. We emphasized medium and the waiter said, "I'll make sure with the kitchen." Drinks come and 20-30 minutes goes by with no food. He comes back and says the kitchen messed up the order and I requested the fries in the meantime. A double order of fries come, to keep us happy.

Another 20-30 minutes goes by and the wrong order comes. At this point we're one of the few remaining tables. Waiter goes through his spiral notepad that looks like a mess, and says he doesn't have our order. It's late, my son's tired and we're beside ourselves, shaking our heads in disbelief. I ask, "Not once but twice you messed up our order?" to which he shrugged with both hands like a clown. At this point, we were done.

The nondescript wine, fries and soda were comped, as expected. But the whole experience will have us, and our relatives who live in Hudson Yards, reconsider going there again unless...

Burgers are so small and literally come alone on a side plate with just a bun. Nothing else. No lettuce, onion, tomato, chips - nada! I have had larger burgers at a friends BBQ. I paid 15.00 for my hamburger that came with a teensy amount of arugula and caramelized onions. No cheese, that would have been an additional dollar You have to order all your sides, in addition to the cost of your burger, at an extra cost. So $6.00 additional dollars for sweet potato fries that were severely over cooked and most to the point of black crispness. Honestly the other sides were ok and were a healthier portion then the actual burger itself. Nice place. Clean. Friendly staff, nice vibe, good music but honestly this restaurant is way overpriced and not worth the money. It was over 100.00 for 4 people. You can find better deals, bigger and more delicious burgers and better value at almost any other joint. Severely disappointing. I couldn’t possibly, with a good conscience, recommend this place to anyone and I shall consider this both my first...

Food was decent. We were the first group of the day, and yet they were already out of lamb for their lamb burgers - not a great sign. I ordered the bluecy and it was pretty good. Nice flavor, right amount of blue cheese. Toppings were a bit boring. Lettuce, tomato, (raw) red onion, fry sauce. That was it… The fries were a bit uninspired. Given that I was already paying quite a lot for a burger, the expectation is that fries would be included. Nope. Had to shell over another $8 to get a small bowl of fries that were nothing to write home about. When it comes to American food, you can tell a lot about a place based solely on its fries, and Whitmans sadly fell short, in taste, quantity, and price. They didn’t even have a specialty sauce to help me swallow my overpriced fries. Beyond that, service was good. Ambiance was nice and classy. But I’m all about the FOOD when I dine out, and likely will opt for another option with better price-quality ratios.
