My 13 year old grandson told me he’s never been to a soul food restaurant, and wanted my husband and I to take him, I decided to take him to EllaEm’s on Sunday 9/14/25. We were seated with politeness and warmth by the only sever and hostess immediately, BUT all that changed! We waited for an hour for our food. My husband ask her during the waiting, aren’t there any bread that’s supposed to come, she replied yes it comes with your food do you want it now? At that point I asked her “what’s going on? we’ve been waiting for some time now.She said to me unapologetically “we have Uber Eats, Door Dash and some other take out businesses she mentioned and there’s five people ahead of you” and left our table. It was no I apologize for the wait or any empathy whatsoever. They were very unorganized and could not handle their current busy situation. We and other dine in customer suffered because of it. There were people who could no longer take the waiting and left. I said to my grandson if you wasn’t here we would have done the same. We finally got our food and when we finished she came over, told us the amount, which was a lot lower then We thought. We assume they gave us a discount to compensate for being inconvenienced. NO! she came back to collect the money and gave us another total. I said to her you said it was this amount, she looked at her pad and not in a nice way and said I must of had the wrong table, you had this and this right? We said “yes” and still unapologetic she took our money which was over hundred and some dollars and walked away. The only Grace we received the entire time was from the 15 old year Hispanic kid working there, he was nice, understanding and apologized for the wait.I was so disappointed that my grandson had to experience this during his first ever visit to a soul food restaurant. It’s really sad in this city that most black own businesses can give you the worst customer service, over charge you and expect you to lay down and take it. Las Vegas we have to...
Read moreAbsolutely Amazing!! We're from the soul food south and this place has all the staples at reasonable prices but more than the taste (which are incredible) the people are just so very friendly and accommodating truly this place is a MUST visit. *Update!!! Something must've changed either leadership or ownership since my visit last year I've come to this location 3x a month every month it has been a abrupt decline in service as well as that 'Down home' feel the staff I've come in contact with is sharp, at times abrasive, seemingly overwhelmed and subsequently they make it seem as though by spending your money 💰 here it's a privilege of some kind for the consumer very off putting to say the least. The individual that just took my takeout order spoke so fast it was almost threatening as if if I didn't get what she said the first time 'I should've known' when she asked for my phone number for the order she clearly saw my family has frequently ordered calling me by NAME and still didn't see that as an opportunity for a great service experience only that the food must be so good it doesn't matter how I'm spoken to or feel inside the experience. Food is still good 👍🏽 although I don't believe we will be spending any more time/effort/monetarily supporting this establishment anymore. In the spirit of (I could be wrong) I just placed another order for sides JUST SIDES. 2 turnip greens, and 3 orders of yams that's all. It's been 32 mins since I ordered I just walked into Ella's they didn't greet me eye to eye but with their backs turned yelling I ask 'are you speaking to me?' 'Yeah' 'It'll be 15 more minutes' 'On a couple of sides?!?!' 'Yeah.' Then turns back to doing whatever it was they were doing. WOW. when businesses show you how little your business means to them. Believe them. Which is unfortunate we began frequenting this place because is WAS a illustration of excellence. That season has clearly...
Read moreEllaEm's is a delightful haven for soul food lovers, offering a comforting and hearty menu. The smothered porkchops, both fried and grilled, are a standout, with the option of savory chicken or beef gravy that perfectly complements the tender meat. The oxtail comes highly recommended and does not disappoint—it's rich, flavorful, and cooked to perfection.
All dishes are cooked to order, ensuring freshness and a personal touch in every bite. Impressively, no pork is used in any of the ingredients, catering to diverse dietary preferences without compromising on flavor. The turkey wings in chicken gravy are a must-try, providing a succulent and satisfying experience.
Side dishes like yams, mac and cheese, rice and gravy are simply delicious, hitting all the right notes of comfort food goodness. The red beans and rice and collard greens are equally delightful, showcasing traditional soul food flavors with a burst of taste in every bite.
Portion sizes are generous, ensuring you leave with a full belly and a smile on your face. While dishes like the fried chicken and catfish could benefit from a bit more seasoning, they are still very good overall and worth trying. However, it's worth noting that the prices are a bit on the high side, which might be a consideration for some diners.
One area for improvement is the Kool-Aid, which had an unusual aftertaste of onions that was a bit off-putting.
EllaEm's is far from being a dim hole-in-the-wall restaurant. It provides a welcoming atmosphere where you can enjoy a hearty, home-cooked meal that's made with care and love. Whether you're a soul food aficionado or a newcomer to the cuisine, EllaEm's promises a satisfying and enjoyable...
