Let me first start off by saying that I've been coming here since they first opened. Everyone always seemed to be kind and the food was decent. That all changed on my last visit. My friends and I stopped in and ordered our usual. Not long after we began to eat, my friend found a big disgusting GRUB WORM like bug on her plate. It was revolting. We discreetly informed the waitress. She took the plate away, while another waitress came to our table to ask where it was found. After 10 minutes of waiting, we realized no one was coming back to apologize or fix the situation. Meanwhile, the waitresses are behind the bar laughing about who knows what. I had to stand up and walk across the restaurant and ask if they were going to do anything, at least ask my friend if she wanted to reorder something else. So disgusted over the worm found in our food and the service we stopped eating and asked for the check. The bill stated that we were getting 10% off. I couldn't believe the insult. No apology, and 7 dollars off our bill. That single meal itself cost 14 dollars. I am not asking for everyone's meal to be free, just that the meal with the WORM would be taken off the bill. I asked to talk to the manager. She was so rude. She treated me like it was my fault there was a dead worm in our food. Her excuse was that she gave half off the meal because our friend ate half the food. If my friend knew there was a grub on her plate, she wouldn't have taken a single bite of course. I had to explain to her that the food was contaminated and finally she just walked away and a waitress returned stating that the meal was removed. We paid our bill and left even though we barely touched our meals. We will NEVER return. I felt so guilty that I did not walk around telling everyone that their food could have worms in it. That is why I am leaving this review now. Anyone who eats there, please chew carefully. If I could give zero stars I would. I still want that apology. I doubt I will...
Read moreWe had been going to & enjoying District Thai for years. During the pandemic, over the last 1.5 years, we exclusively ordered carry out & tipped no less than 20% each time, since they were acting responsibly & not allowing dine in.
Last night, when my partner visited to pick up his carry out order, he noticed through the window that they’re allowing dine in again, so people were inside without masks. Due to his medical needs, he stood at the front door & called to politely request that an employee bring his carry out order (which he’d already paid & tipped for online) to the door. The employee who answered the phone said that he’d have to come in to get it, then hung up.
He called back, explained why coming in was too medically risky for him, & kindly asked again that she please bring it over to him (the front door is glass & close to the pick up counter, so he could see his carry out order & the employee, who could see him as well). This time, she angrily shouted at him that he’d have to come in to get his order, then hung up on him again. He tried calling two more times, at which point she wouldn’t even speak to him, but just picked up then hung up the phone.
He didn’t know what he could do, since he had already paid & she was now vindictively withholding his order. Periodically, she was serving a table of folks only a few feet from the glass door, looking at him, pointing at him teasingly, & still neither answering the phone nor bringing his food.
Over 30 minutes later, one of the diners pointed at him and appeared to suggest that she finally bring it to him, so she grabbed the now cold order, walked the few feet to hand it to him, & when he tried to thank her she shut the door in his face.
This whole experience was a shock to us. We had always enjoyed District Thai, & gotten along well with those working there. We don’t know where this weird disdain suddenly came from, but we’ll...
Read moreDistrict Thai has gone down hill drastically. Its very disappointing as this used to be one of our favorite places to eat. It started during the pandemic which was understandable with all the restaurants trying to figure out their new normal. We let things slide like missing food and special requests not being met. (Things like put this on the side or replace cilantro with basil) We went twice to dine in since the pandemic started, the first time it was very slow which again we understand but it took 30 minutes to take our order and we were the only seated table in the place. If they couldn't come to us they should have said to order at the counter, we would have totally done that. The next time we went was this past December, we figured it had been quite some time since we had gone before so it will hopefully be better. BUT this time they wouldn't even allow us to dine in, there were plenty of open tables and again we would have gladly ordered at the counter and even picked our food up from the counter if it would have made things easier for them. They still refused. I know the pandemic has effected restaurants financially so to turn away service was just mind blowing. Friends recently went and we were hoping they would say they had a better experience so we could possibly try a third time but nope they had to wait forever to order and the food was not nearly as good as it used to be. I hope this all gets rectified because I would hate for York to lose another great restaurant due to things that are completely fixable. If this keeps happening people...
