So me and my husband wanted to get dinner after he just got his tattoo done so we walked in and asked if they had a place for two and they seated us. The moment we sat down, our server Joliat came up to us and screamed asking if we knew what we wanted we told him we just sat down and that we wanted a moment to look at the menu. When he came back like 20 minutes later, we ordered bruschetta, which was the only good thing we had that night. I asked him if I could please have some balsamic glaze. He proceeded to tell me they don’t have any of that and they only had balsamic vinegar.then we went to go order dinner. This was the second time we saw our server I ordered the cheese ravioli my husband had the lasagna ricotta, both meals came with a salad and garlic bread. Our server asked us if we would like to upgrade our salad for a small cost to the burrata caprese me and my husband both agreed. However, when we got our bill, we were shocked because two salads were $25.90. That is not a small charge and I understand this is a fancier restaurant it’s going to be more expensive but for our bill which was 92.82 at the end of the night, we could’ve went to Zarletti downtown and had - much better meal than what we had here at DiCarlo. The garlic bread literally tasted like something you could get at the grocery store you throw in the oven and warm it up and it was still cold when we got it. The cheese, ravioli and lasagna had absolutely no taste to it. It tasted like it was premade, and they just unfroze it. Nobody came to pick up any of our empty dishes from the garlic bread or the salads or bruschetta. We had them all stacked in the corner with our empty water glasses and we were probably about halfway done with our dinner before somebody came to take away the plates, our server came. This is the third time we only saw him and we asked him for the bill at which we were very displeased with the service we received and how rude he was. We paid the bill with the little machine. The waiter brought to our table and clicked no tip. He then proceeded to say what no tip and we said man we saw you three times and you were rude to us each time. This was the first time ever that I’ve never tipped my waiter or waitress in my entire life.
The manager of the place went around to every table, asking everybody how their meal was and me and my husband were in the corner. Never got asked at all. We were totally ignored, and we even tried to flake him down just to get a refill of water. the table next to us never got their appetizer that they ordered and also that lady ordered a sparkling water because she wanted have it on the way home and the same waiter literally said what you’re not gonna drink Your bottle of water and proceeded to opened it and put it in a glass after she specifically said, she wanted to take it home with her.
I was very excited when I found out this place reopened because I used to love it but under the new ownership, it’s absolutely terrible. I will never be going back and for now on I will be going to a much better Italian restaurant than this especially for how expensive it is I would rather spend the 40 more dollars and have a luxury...
Read moreThis was a complete letdown.
My husband heard that they had reopened after being closed. Sadly, after our experience today they should have stayed closed or will not stay open for long.
Wait times were long, and the hostesses did not seem to know what was going on. Organization seemed to be lacking. I overheard two different parties saying they had a reservation only to be told by a hostess they "do not take reservations". How does this happen?! I can't imagine being told that.
I also overhead as we were waiting for our table that their phone system was down? Honestly, after everything we experienced, it doesn't surprise me.
We noticed right away the menu is a lot smaller. Portion sizes and wine pours are small. You will not get what you pay for.
Service was fine, but another table must have said something, and our server told them that they are still "in a soft open" as an excuse?? What? It's been advertised it's open. That is not a soft open. If you're open to the public. That is not a soft open.
The food. Oi vey. Like I mentioned, portion sizes are a lot smaller than it used to be.
I got the make your own pasta, and it came out very hot. Almost too hot, but it was pretty good.
My husband's on the other hand. It was downright inedible. The carbarnera had so much salt! It was meat overload and the salt was insane! I tried it and it was not good. It made him not feel well afterward. We have no idea what happened, but it was a huge departure from the original carbarnera, and it was terrible.
It used to be so good and something we looked forward to. It was so disappointing.
We tried to tell the busboy and server who seemed to take our concerns seriously, but maybe not.
After that happened, she brought our check, but we were not done. We wanted to order dessert, but we were not given a chance. I don't think I have ever been to a restaurant that forced the check on you in a "get out now and leave" type gesture. My husband and I looked at each other and were like: "is this actually happening?" We told them something was wrong and now are being told not so subtly to leave without being asked if we need anything else. The table next to us got the same treatment: "you finished your entree now get out ". I heard them share very similar bewildered sentiments like my husband and I did.
They obviously are trying to turn those tables as quickly as possible. What they don't get is that we would have stayed and ordered something else. It's honestly sad. It's not at all what it used to be
Suffice it to say. We will not be back.
Edit: I forgot to mention that our bruschetta appetizer was soggy. We think it was left out or was waiting too long.
Also, they had issues with giving garlic bread to us and other tables with our meal? We didn't receive it until we finished our meals and while we were being strongly suggested we leave? Why give it to us then at that point?? I have no idea how and why garlic bread is hard to make and why it took so long. It's kind of laughable.
Another update. The next day: my husband is not feeling well after after eating here. He's still feeling the effects of it. Do yourself a favor: do...
Read moreNot Italian at all!!! I would not recommend this restaurant at all! Food too pricey and not worth the price! My husband and I had received some gift cards for this place, and we thought we would give it another try. My son and his wife were coming to visit, and we thought we would have the food ready for them at home after a long drive. We worked all week and I was too tired to cook a large meal for the family. After over 6 years of not going there, we thought that maybe things had changed. How very disappointing! Food and service was worse than I remembered. We went into the takeout section and we placed our order, we come back later for the order and they just hand me 3 packages. When I get to the car, I realized the pizza was missing, so I went back in and asked about it, they guy there tells me “you didn’t order pizza”. Really? It was on the receipt – a 10” cheese pizza. So, he goes to the back in search of the pizza, and out he comes, with not only the pizza, but also with the calzone we ordered…. he says sorry and hands it out to me. We go home and as we are pulling out the food I realized, the steak dish is missing. My husband gets in the car to go get it. He comes back with the steak which is now cold. He says that the attendees said, “we were wondering whose food that was”. Really? You can’t even keep track of the food your customers purchase? Your customers have to be chasing after their orders? NO accountability here, customers have to open their orders at the counter to make sure they are correct, since the attendees/serves DON’T CARE if they don’t give you the order right or not.
The steak is cold by the time my husband arrives home, we warm it up which now makes it well done. Ughhh. We serve the food and realize this is not Italian food. The sauce served with the calzone taste worse than canned tomato sauce with no flavor whatsoever, it’s also very watery. The calzone nor the pizza have no sauce. The kids didn’t even touch it. The meatball sauce it’s the same that came on the little container for the calzone. The Sicilian salad is exactly what the menu says except the salads were wilted. This is not a Sicilian salad. The California salad was passable and so were the wings. The steak which we had to warm up is now though and dry. Don’t call yourself a restaurant serving Italian Cuisine, this food is not Italian and does not taste like Italian food. Italians take pride on the preparation of food and serving others. Your staff can’t even keep track of the orders, nor care if the customer is missing items when they hand out the food they purchase. And your cooks can’t properly season the food they serve. Too expensive for bad food and awful service. We will not be patronizing this...
