IMPORTANT: Before I even start, I want everyone to know that their homemade donuts are not homemade. They had maybe 20 bags of donut mix that looked like from a supermarket sitting on the counter.
IF YOU ARE NEW TO OCNJ, DO NOT GO TO OVES, UNLESS YOU WISH FOR PUKING, SLOW SERVICE, AND INEXPERIENCED STAFF.
Now to the review: Such a great location, yet completely wasted. I imagine the only way this place is still open is through people coming to OCNJ for their first time and not knowing better. EACH TIME I have eaten at Oves, I was only later greeted by food poisoning. After a crab cake sandwich, I threw up that evening. A family member's hotdog was GREEN, and another family member received food poisoning after lobster. I would have rated it two stars, but after spending more time in OCNJ and getting Italian Ices, it did it for me. I was standing in line behind a group of maybe four or five kids, maybe 8-10, and they were slowly served Italian Ice. Took the lady behind the counter maybe ten minutes to get them Italian Ices. When it came time for me and a family member to order for the rest of our family on the beach and ourselves, the lady switched with another teenage boy. Nobody behind the counter looked older than 17. We were told we had to go to the longer line to order and pay, which normally would have just ticked me off, however, they go so slow it would have taken a half hour (I'm not exaggerating), and so we wouldn't do it. So we were there with a teenager telling us to go to the other line after another girl would be embarrassed to tell us to do so, so she switched with the teenage boy, and after standing there with us clearly visible, no signs saying which line is which, and the group of kids being served, we were denied service in that line. We left, and that was the last straw and final time at Oves. We went to the person who rings the bell for ice cream and saw him coming up the street, and within a minute and a half we were served five items, by a much nicer man. Oves, this was the last straw.
Shoutout to Brown's donuts for delicious donuts, extremely friendly staff and owners, and great food, atmosphere, and location overall. Even their Italian Ice is better. I recommend going there instead.
This also sounds plenty dramatic, but you sorta had...
Read moreI would give 0 star if possible but unfortunately 1 is the minimum. We got there around 4:15pm. We asked an employee behind the counter where do we place an order. He said someone will be with us. Few minutes went by, no one came over to the counter. We asked another guy where to order. He said we can just take the menu and sit wherever we want, someone will come over to take our order. Few minutes went by still no one comes over. Then my husband went over to the counter again and a guy said dinner is not served till 5pm so we can’t order. So as we starting to walk out, another guy happened to be standing at the counter and we casually confirmed with him if they don’t take order till 5pm, he said we can order lunch just not dinner. Very interesting... Since there are only couple restaurants around 2nd street of the ocean city boardwalk and we have two small babies, so we went ahead and place the order. The order took about 15-20 minutes. By the time we sat down to eat, it was close to 5pm which means it’s close to their dinner time. They’re starting to setup the tables to get ready to serve dinner. As we’re eating, a bus boy? kept coming over and asked, are you done with this or done with that for at least 3-4 times. Finally I said to him, we’re not done yet. I’ll let you know if we are. Then, a hostess was trying to set a family of 3 for dinner in between our table and the one behind us. We have a stroller in between the 2 tables and there’s no room to set anyone in between them. It seems like she and the bus boy? just want to kick us out of the place just so they can free up the table for customers who want to eat dinner so they can collect tips. As we’re walking out, there’s another guy standing by the outside of the counter who’s check-in customers for dinner, we told him how disorganized the place is as no one other than those who been there before seem to know where to place orders and how rude they are by making us feel they just want to kick us out. They shouldn’t treat customers like that. It sure is the first time and will be our last time eating there. Unbelievably horrible place. We do not recommend if you never been...
Read moreWe were riding bikes on the boardwalk and thought it looked really nice so went in for breakfast. Unfortunately the service was subpar and food was poor. Waitress was generally nice but not attentive (i.e. asked for more coffee creamers, never came back. asked for more coffee never came back, etc). There were other waitresses and only a couple other occupied tables so they weren't short on help. My wife and I got omletes and they were terrible. My wife who is not picky at all, didn't eat hers. I got a mushroom omlete with cheese. The eggs were definitely from a carton (you can tell when they have no substance to them , honestly a light sprinkle of cheese (could barely see it) and probably a tablespoon of canned mushrooms. Neither was mixed in just rolled in the eggbeaters. My wife's the same. Told the waitress and she agreed but never came back but did deduct $1 for no cheese. My son's pancakes so dry that he didnt finish and he is a pancake glutton. Looked to be at least 3 people in the back cooking so again, not short on help. When I went to pay, I was asked how was the food and I replied, "want the truth?" The girl didn't respond. She gave me back my card and I said, "Guess you didn't want my answer?" She turned her head and just held out my receipt. I always thought breakfast was the hardest to mess up, but they did. Overall cute place from the outside but it ends there...food was terrible and the ignorance when I was checking out was the clincher...WILL...
