ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE! I went in here after a long day of walking around and beaching. Me and my friend were both kind of tired and wanted a snack. We both really like edamame, so we got excited when we saw this place. We walked in and got 1 edamame. Simple, right? The cashier asked is it for here or to go we said HERE well than a few minutes later we get our edamame but it’s in a to go container.. which whatever but, than my friend asks for water cups she gets me a water and she goes to get herself one and the soda machine has the weird thing where the water is connected to the lemonade she accidentally gets a splash of lemonade like it was genuinely barley any maybe a 3rd of it at most and keep in mind it’s connected… she genuinely didint actually even intend for that but she starts to walk over to the table and I’m about to get up to ask for a little bowl so I can dip the edamame in soy sauce because for some reason, we got it and a to go, even though we asked for it for here….. but anyways well, my friend was arriving to the table and the cashier basically storms over and grabs the cup away from my friend and dumps it out and says something along the lines of “no you can’t have that” or something stupid like that she literally dumped it out and then hand her back the cup and said only water it was generally just so uncomfortable. I’m also in the restaurant industry, and I get that it can be annoying if people ask for a water cup and get soda, but it was genuinely just a splash of lemonade, and it wasn’t actually even on purpose. It wasn’t like she got some Coke or anything else, and even then, I’ve never seen it. Be a big deal. So I’m really upset We even tipped to begin with because it’s one of those annoying systems where you have to tip right away, and I’ll put a photo, but this is with our meal, ended up having to...
Read moreI've been going to Umi in Oceanside for 3 years. Priced right and I loved the place. August of 2020 I go there to get my usual Vegetable Roll with salad and a side of Miso Soup. I haven't been there in a while and find that the Menu has changed. The sushi no longer comes with a side. So I order a side ginger salad for $2.98. The salad is iceberg lettuce with a trace of red cabbage, and a dark ginger dressing. There is so much water in the salad that when I pour it out, it fills two of the cups provided for the sliced ginger and the wasabi. The sushi has just a sliver of Avocado in it, and is just about too big in diameter to fit in ones mouth. I'm not going back. Just a block away is another sushi place with good food quality. If they had a website with contact info, I would have complained directly to them out of...
Read moreI can think of several other Japanese grills and sushi spots around the Townsite area I can go to, but I always find myself coming here. It's not just convenient to me to get to, but its also very yummy. My go to is the spicy chicken combo with miso soup and california roll, but I've tried various other sushi and plates at this place that I can't find any reason why its not any worse than the high end sushi bar in the same block. Perhaps what makes this place better is its quick servings for those who are on the go, but eating on location also brings to mind a very chill, Californian vibe. Surfboards and curios mark the place, making a very cozy joint to get that flavor of teriyaki and rice on. There are also a number of beers on tap one can try with their meal. Umi never...
