I ate here last night. None of my family nor myself liked the sushi. I know why though. We are all used to American Style very commercial tasting sushi but I think anybody that knows and prefers sushi as authentic from Japan would prefer this over any commercialized style sushi mass production style. The Black Sushi House is like traditional sushi With an American style Twist done to perfection.Think of this as a friendly American style introduction to real Japanese style sushi. If you do not enjoy this you will definitely not like real Japanese sushi. Amercan style is loaded with strong overpowering flavors and real Japanese sushi is far less based on seasoning it is also much more healthy because it is far more focused on the quality of the fish. The quality and freshness of the fish was really really high! The amount of preparation and care taken in the creation is excessive. So I think this restaurant deserves 5 stars. It's sorta like burgers and steak over kidneys and oysters and caviar. I and my family would absolutely prefer burgers fried shrimp and Chinese food. So it is not fair to compare. So five stars will I give...
Read moreWow! Seattle superior grade sushi in Ogunquit ME?! Not that there can't be good sushi anywhere, but seriously good sushi made with care and attention to detail with the finest ingredients is kind of hard to find.
William, the owner, is a charming and interesting guy who really loves sushi. So much so that he bought a sushi restaurant and travels into Boston multiple times a week to buy properly sashime graded fish for his restaurant. The poke bowls are even sashimi grade fish! I rate all sushi places on their tekka maki and theirs was first date. The sashimi was awesome and rolls of stupendous quality and flavor.
My only regret is that they are 3000 miles away from my house and I can only eat so much! If this place was local to my I'd be here way too much!
Highly highly recommend you try Black Sushi House if you're in or gen relatively close to Ogunquit!
Also, FYI this is currently a BYOB establishment. So remember to bring any libations you'd want to have...
Read moreWilliam Martin, the owner has high expectations for his restaurant. Only the freshest of fish are served here. He has created wonderful combinations for traditional rolls with his own twist as well as amazing creative combinations of his own. You want a lobster roll? His Lobster X2 is stuffed!!! You want smokey flavored tuna....go for the Double J Roll. You want a creative dessert you won't find anywhere else, Ask him for the banana roll. It's not on the menu but he injects Nutella into a banana and serves it with macadamia coconut ice cream with drizzles of chocolate and caramel. To die for! You want a drink with your dinner? It is BYOB or get a drink from the Master Mixologist, Abe, at the Leavitt Theatre next door and bring it over. Please note, as William will tell you, he is criminally under staffed so please be patient. It's...
