This two star review is because of an uncomfortable administrative experience I have ordered from Harbor in the past when I want a special candy gift to give. Yesterday I had a problem with an order i was trying to.place. I received a message that there were multiple accounts associated with my email and would I like to consolidate them. I answered yes and received a response that an email would be sent to me with instructions. Well I never received that email nor did I receive a confirmation of my order. So I called the shop. The woman who answered said the order did come in and she was already working on consolidating the accounts. I still don't know why I had multiple accounts but it seems that the system creates an account before an order is actually placed. Or something to that effect. So today I still hadn't received an email iconfirmation so I called again. A different sales agent answered and when I said I'm having trouble with an order and I knew I shouldn't have ordered with you (they say 1 - ? business days before order is shipped) and I needed this by the end of next week. Well perhaps this was partly my fault since I may not have ordered enough in advance. But her response was, in my.opinion, out of line. She shrilly chastised me and asked why was I being so negative? Then she said the order had shipped today. I would have been happy with that part. But I think her criticism of my mental state and attitude was totally unnecessary. I hope I DO receive my candy , that she doesn't pull it from the 'to be shipped ' pile and somehow I hope I am able to enjoy this candy. Maybe she was having a bad day but I was having a bad few days myself yet I never indulged in personal criticism of this person. I hope I can bring myself to order from.you...
Read moreThis is such a nice vintage type building with old time flare and architecture. The facade is undergoing restoration and prepped for repairing and painting. The workers are doing the excellent prep work with the shop open for business. I got to say the prep is just amazing and your able to see multiple layers of different color paint over the years. The interior is very nice with yesteryear type metal ceilings. You are able to see the large kitchen area where they make the candy through the windows. As for the candy, it’s just perfect and tasty. They also have sugar-free and vegan type selections along with traditional. We usually always walk up here to shop after walking Marginal Way Oceanside trail. The only thing I will mention is the shop packages your purchases in paper bags with handles instead of usual plastic bags which is very environmentally friendly. We purchased about a pound or two of candy and back to the trail. The paper handles tore out and my bag fell. The sides also started ripping out, my reason for bringing this up is to suggest that you ask for double bagging or a box maybe and hold the bag around the bottom. My suggestion is for Harbor Candy is to get more sturdy paper bags with thicker and stronger paper and better reinforced handles. When I go to Trader Joe’s they pack your groceries in some very nice heavy duty paper bags with pretty robust paper handles. I have never had trouble with the bags ripping out or handles tearing off so there are heavy bags out there. For this application the purchases may be lighter or heavier than what we bought and stronger bags...
Read moreI can't go within 50 miles of Ogunquit without stopping at the Harbor Candy Shop. As soon as I enter the store I stand for a few seconds at the door and take in that incredible aroma that comes from every direction. There are few things in life that are truly worth waiting for. The delights that await you in this place are surely one of those things. I can't begin to describe the taste sensations on every shelve, in every bin, behind every glass case that await you but rest assured that even the most finicky of chocolate connoisseurs will find something to delight the senses and rejuvinate the body and soul. I know I'm making this sound like a religious experience but take it from me, when you're feeling down visit this oasis and I promise you that the moment you enter your troubles will melt away and an inner peace will decend upon you. I often dream about the raspberry baskets, black currant cups, heavenly fudge, nut wreaths, truffles, fruit bark, orange zest cremes, mocha cups, caramallows, peanut butter cups (with real peanut butter!) and the countless other treats that await you there. And the best thing is if you can't get there in person you can order all this stuff online! Some reviewers have complained about the prices. Seriously, what price do you put on a product that improves the quality of life? Believe me, it's a small price to pay. I can't wait until...
