Update to Jamal:
Since I’m not able to reply to Jamal’s comments, and no contact information was left I will add an update here. #1 I was understanding about the parking being difficult, but I should be able to keep my car there up until check out. #2 I didn’t bring up the issues upon check out because I was yelled at about parking and didn’t want to get into a verbal argument with your staff. It just didn’t seem worth it after me trying to make my room available early so someone else could begin their stay (and maybe give your team more time to clean the room.) Also, try running the shower in room 140 and you will see the issue within a minute. Odd you would try to imply I made this up. What would be the point of that? I am not asking for anything just trying to make people aware of what they are walking into.
Original Review: I chose this place because of the location and had never stayed here before. The location was the only thing that did not disappoint.
I arrived several hours early on check in day and assumed I would not be able to check in until 4. Luckily they had a room ready within an hour and was so excited that my stay started on such a positive note. The front desk wasn’t overly welcoming but they were pleasant enough. Didn’t really mention anything about the place other than a general direction to my room in “That building over there“.
Everything changed when I walked into my room. Everything had this weird odor, which I am assuming is mold? The room was made up but upon looking deeper, I realized it was not thoroughly cleaned. A few examples were dirty utensils laying all mismatched in the kitchenette, an ice bucket full of old water, several long hairs in the bed linens, etc. I assume if you are paying 400+ per night, things should at least be clean. Also, the toilet did not flush well and the bathtub backed up to my mid calf during my shower (SO GROSS!).
The worst part was my service upon checking out. I left my room around 8:30 AM and figured I would grab a coffee downtown. I thought it would be courteous (since they had the room ready early for me), to go check out before going downtown - though I technically still had over an hour. I asked the woman at the main desk if my car would be ok. Her exact response was “Don’t you see we are busy and full? I don’t think so. How long will you be 20 minutes?” I told her I wasn’t sure but probably little over that. She just shook her head. I said I could just wait until 10 to check out and she said “Well, you already did so”.
Honestly, go stay at the other dozens of places within a 5 minute walk and have a place that doesn’t smell, is clean, and doesn’t reprimand you for parking in a place...
Read moreWe've walked by on our way to the beach many times and I've always thought that this looked like such a quaint motel in an amazing location. So, we decided to book a room last minute while we were in town and were very happy to get a room with a balcony view of the beach. Oddly enough, you can only see the beach while you are STANDING on the balcony...who designed these balcony railings, Andrea Bocelli? Call me crazy, but most people want to sit on their balcony in the morning to enjoy a cup of coffee while savoring the view (without a railing/blindfold). Don't get me started on the 1980's coffee machine that was simply piled up on top of a stack of pots & pans in the cabinet. This motel must be one of the last stand-outs using actual keys instead of cards. It was nearly impossible to unlock the door to our room...the knob looked like it was intended for a bathroom door (not very secure). The sliding door was probably installed while Wham still had music videos on MTV! Unfortunately, Bruce Banner would have quickly turned into the Hulk trying to get the damn slider open or closed. Ugh, the bathroom...yucky! Felt like I entered a time warp when I walked into the bathroom for the first time - peeling paint on the ceilings, everything outdated and dingy. What could I possibly complain about next? The pool was clean but very small...I understand space is limited, but I've never seen an in-ground pool with such a narrow width patio space surrounding it. If someone is sitting in a chair on the side of the pool, you literally need to step over their legs/feet and be careful not to fall into the pool. The tennis court was a little scary looking...looked more like a tennis pit. It would probably be a good place for Rick Grimes to round up a bunch of zombies! Well, I guess that's enough complaining for one review. But trust me, I really wanted to like this place. I gave it 2 stars because of the location and...
Read moreI feel like i was seriously misled by all the good reviews of this hotel. What you pay for with this hotel is the location (3 to 5 minute walk to the beach). Other than that, this wasn't a good place to stay. Everything in the room is outdated (they will claim it is nostalgic but it's not - it's just old and smells a bit). The "effeciency kitchen" had no microwave so we could not conveniently heat up leftovers we had from local restaurants (we could have used the stove, but really, who re-heats pizza on an old stove?). The room had almost no outlets. We all shared one outlet located next to the bed close to the floor to take turns charging our phones. The alarm clock, coffee maker, toaster and one lamp were unplugged and even if we wanted to use them, we had nowhere to plug them in. In the welcome email, they said that room service would not be available during our stay, but when we checked in, they said we could request it. So when we needed clean towels, we stopped by the front desk to just request that they take the dirty towels, which we had placed in a pile for them, and replace them with some clean ones. They handed me a trash bag and clean towels and basically told me to do it myself (why not? It's not like I was on vacation or anything!) The best part (and by best, I mean worst) was the tiny toilet. The toilet was so short, the top of it was below our knees. We were literally squatting to go to the bathroom. Oh yeah, and the front desk is not staffed at night so if you need anything past, I believe it was 8 pm, you're on your own. And all this for the bargain price of over $400 per night?! Do yourself a favor and stay at a less expensive hotel (The Beechmere was fantastic) and just pay for parking at the beach if you dont want to walk the extra 10 minutes. You'll still save about...
