Steak 'n Shake — Restaurant in Ohio

My family loves Steak and Shake. It's a great place to go when you want reasonably priced food but still get sit-down service. That is no longer the case. We went last night (2-25-22) and found that they have completely changed the set up of this restaurant. They no longer have table service. They no longer have a human being to take your order or bring you your food. Now you must order and pay at touch screen kiosks located at the entrance. My husband ended up helping an elderly gentleman trying to use one near us because there we no employees to help. I got our order in and paid for and was glad that we could at least still use cash, as the kiosk took both cash and card. We then chose our own seating. We purposefully chose a booth by the pick-up counter so we wouldn't have to carry four meals across the place. Fountain drinks are now self-serve and the cups are just sitting next to the machine so anyone can walk up and just get what they want whether they paid for it or not. Milkshakes are dropped off at the pick-up counter and you have to go get them. Same with the food. If you want napkins, they are available by the fountain drinks. Once you are done, you clean up yourself. So, the food was still good. And I know many places are doing this now and I'm not against it. But the reason we went there was because I wanted to sit down and have someone else bring me food. As the person who makes and serves most of the meals at home, I appreciate having someone else do it once in a while. If we had known before hand that this was no longer the case here, we would have gone somewhere else. We'll still go here for the drive-thru, but that's probably all. We still enjoyed the meal, but half the fun of Steak and Shake was the experience and now that it's gone, I just don't see us eating...

This place used to be my favorite place to go eat either by myself or with the kids i havent been for a year now but decided to give them another chance for service well it terribly failed yet agian. So to start its a card only place now no cash no waiters or waitresses you order and pay for your food by a kiosk you find a table and sit down and wait then they set your food on the counter and you have to retrieve it the cook staff is very inpolite the have the maitnaince guy making shakes instead of doing his work when you wait for your food its long wait the bigger your order the longer you wait there is no first come first serve there is no drinks while you wait on your food if you want a shake you gotta wait until the janitor is done with what he was doing to make it i hope the girls that used to work there got a good job somewhere because they was awsome. I hope they do something to better serve us a the public it didnt get cheaper but the food got smaller shakes are always like water now just horrible. Bring the original place back to action the kitchen is dirty used to be clean the bathrooms used to be clean not anymore this place was always a great welcome but now. Our waitress was very nice and the food was good and hot, but can't say much about anything else. I ordered a chicken strip meal to go (this was after got done eating) and waited at least 20 minutes! She came over and said it shouldn't be much longer and then she came back and said they did the chicken, but not the fries. Waited even longer and finally got up to pay the bill to get them going a bit faster. She was very apologetic and was trying to get it going. Another girl that was at the end of her shift came and took our money and we complained about taking so long and she said the chicken was done and only takes 5 minutes to cook (very rudely I must say) and I said well it has been way over 20 minutes!! She the proceeded to go over and talk about us with the manager, which NEVER made eye contact with or apologized to us for taking so long! THEN, an another employee that was done their shift....TOOK MY CHICKEN ORDER! We had to wait for more and that time the waitress stood there so they wouldn't give it away. I have been there many times and they are the rudest people of anyplace I have gone to and the managers there are a joke! This should have been taken care of properly by the manager, but instead, he just laughed and went...
