I hate to leave such a poor review, but unfortunately that’s what they earned from my experience. I took a couple comics to them, one was a #1 Spider-Man Maximum Carnage promo 1994 comic and the gentleman said it was in pretty poor condition, and offered me a $75 check for it. Two days later I took it to three other comic book stores in Pittsburgh that all told me I should have it graded, and that it was a minimum 7 out of 10 and maybe higher, and that it was selling on eBay for around $600 at that condition. And that the same exact one sold on eBay two days prior for $120 that was ripped in half and taped back together. So they either knew what it was worth and tried to pull a fast one on me since I’m not very educated on comics, or just didn’t know what it was worth. But either way, if your trying to determine a value of a comic, then the people at the comic book store should have the knowledge/experience to give you good information with. And should also be trustworthy. It just makes me not able to trust them in the future.
UPDATE- You can clearly see by the unprofessional reply from the owner that I struck a nerve here. He literally goes on to call me derogatory names like “coward” and said that I hid behind anonymity because my email has my business name instead of my first name as the title and you clearly can’t change that for a review… my name is David Howard, and my businesses name is “The Howards Garage”, which literally utilizes my last name in the title. But, they will say and do anything they can to try and bash me, and make me seem like an incompetent fool so that you will think I’m just some nut job leaving a bad review, but that’s clearly not the case as you can tell. Also, I wrote another review with my wives email address explaining all this and they had it blocked somehow because I got confirmation it was posted, and someone even liked it, but it’s now missing, so….. I wonder how many other negative reviews are missing. BUYER BEWARE!
P.S. the comic in the picture sold for $320 in “RAW” condition to a local off Facebook marketplace after receiving several offers of $250-$300… He is going to have it pressed/cleaned/graded and then resell. So I’m grateful I didn't accept that $75 offer from them. Lol I still can’t believe they tried to say they offered me $100 for it, which is still low of course, but it’s just a flat out...
Read moreI come down to the store today for my first time, ever. My friend and myself walked in and neither of the workers didn’t acknowledge we even walked In. We found the storage boxes. Picked up 29 of them in various sizes. When we got to the counter, no one said hi , hello or anything. Had to ask for penny sleeves, didn’t see any on the walls or anything. When I had added 5 more packs of sleeves and the gentlemen running the register looked very unhappy that he had to add 5 more. When the one suggest to use a box that supplies came in so I didn’t have like 20 bags filled with boxes. The one gentlemen looked very unhappy to use the box. When I got my purchase , no thank you or thanks for shopping or nothing. The prices on the boxes were good price, so I will stop in for that only if Rick @ Steve’s Sports Cards don’t have any and all my card supplies will come from there also. I have close to 500,000 sports cards and every few months I need supplies. Someone needs to teach the staff how to interact with the customers and make there experience in the store more inviting. I am so...
Read moreFrom these reviews. Looks like a common trend is customers being treated poorly by staff here and the owner blaming the customer when customer reaches out. I wouldn’t spend a penny here if it was the last store open in the world. The owner found out he charged a customer 400% more 10 min prior, for an identical item and when asked about it, was told it’s not his fault I can’t read and I found something on clearance somewhere. The owner even doubled down and said I was charged fairly. If a customer came into my business and told me something they bought 10 min ago is 400% at their store. I’d want to make it right. I wouldn’t embarrass them and ask if they know how to read. Maybe they can’t read, what’s that matter. Confused the customer by saying all sales are final but you can exchange it. If all sales are final then I can’t exchange it. The owner reached out through email making fun of me also and calling me names. I can understand being bothered with w a job like that at the age of this man but he shouldn’t take that out on...
