I tried to pick up my pre-ordered food tonight from the drive-thru but was asked to come inside. The entire reason I use drive-thrus is because I'm paralyzed and getting in and out of the van is very difficult for me so, although I can be short tempered, I rolled in a few minutes later and my wheelchair and was met by one of the employees who had not realized I just gone through the drive-thru and try to pick up my order until I told her. Once he saw what was going on, she immediately asked if it was okay if check the availability of the manager. Sure I said. In a mere few seconds the manager appeared and listen silently as I explained I ordered my food 15 to 20 minutes ago and when I came to the drive-thru I was told there was no record of the order. I was questioned if I was at the right Whataburger, and inferred to the manager that this is the only Whataburger I choose to go to because of the professional aura from the employees about their business. He asked if he could see my phone and I gave it to him with the Whataburger App onscreen, and he in a low friendly voice explained and showed me why my meals ordered were not waiting for me when I arrived: I had made several mistakes at the end of the order when I sent it. I had to laugh a little bit because this is why I kept my short temper in check - I feel there was a greater chance that I had made a mistake and a lesser chance that they had made one. But the manager was very pleasant. My $37 order was completed in less than 7 minutes and when I got home I was amazed that they were several dessert items have been included but not charged inside my bags.
And this is why I dine so often at only this Whataburger!! Even though I was totally in the wrong and was at fault for my order not being ready when I pulled through the drive-thru, they were so professional about it and even send me I guess what they considered my "Crow pie" at no cost for me to eat for free! What a great group of guys and girls! And, one last thing, I did not realize my order was going to take up that much room, and as I said I'm paralyzed in one of my legs so I have to use a wheelchair and before I could even ask somebody for assistance carrying the bags out to my van this mature and professional black lady not only help by putting them in the van or a designated but she put my wheelchair in my van after I climbed into the front seat. It's actions like these that time will prove the Loyalty I have for...
Read moreI came through the drive thru very excited because it was my first time going to a Whataburger and I wanted to know what all the hype was about. It was a little busy so I didn't mind waiting a little longer than usual. I ordered a Monterey Burger Whatacombo with large fries and a large Mexican Hot Chocolate Shake, plus a Whatachik'n sandwich. However, when I got to the window, I was handed my shake, then was left waiting for my food. It was about 7 minutes before the employee at the window asked me to pull forward, so I did. Several minutes later, the same employee asked me to pull a little further forward so the cars behind me could go. I waited at least 25 minutes between the time I placed my order. Nobody told me what was going on or why it was taking so long. After 5 different cars behind me got their order and drove off, I got frustrated and pulled into a parking spot and went into the dining room. The girl at the counter recognized me and she said they were making my order. I asked what was taking so long and she gave me an attitude while explaining that they handed my order to someone else, and they had to re-make the chicken sandwich. She said the chicken takes 7 minutes to make. I told her that didn't explain why I was waiting for 25 minutes for them to re-make a chicken sandwich, or why nobody communicated anything to me and just left me wondering what was taking so long. Then she left and went to the back. The employee who was working the drive thru that handed me my shake apologized to me, which I appreciated, but it still doesn't excuse the fact that there was nothing communicated to me, or why 5 other cars got their order before I did. I can't imagine I'm the only one who ordered chicken. There was another guy who I'm assuming is a manager, who offered me a shake, but I told him I have my shake. Then he offered me a cookie. I told him I needed the number where I can call to leave feedback. Overall, it was an awful first experience that really soured my taste for the actual food. I used to work in fast food, so I understand when things mess up. But I was always taught to communicate with the customer and NEVER leave them waiting and wondering what the hold up is. I don't think I'll ever go to a...
Read moreWhen I was a little boy, Whataburgers could only be found in Texas and southern Oklahoma, and I used to love it when Daddy would stop our '64 Nash Rambler at a Whataburger location.
This is comfort food for me -- pure nostalgia.
I especially love the fried onions here, and the fries that Whataburgers serve up are second to none among fast food chains.
This particular location on north May Avenue is generally quite clean and bright, and it's open twenty-four hours a day.
Again, I very, very rarely eat this kind of thing, That said, when I DO, it's almost always at this particular Whataburger location.
The salads here are especially good, and the breakfast taquitos are quite filling.
The graveyard shift crew here is hard working. (I eat an early morning breakfast here fairly often when I'm busy working on one of my warehouse sales just south on May.)
Two of the staff members on this shift, two young African-American ladies whose names I don't recall, are always extremely friendly and accommodating. VERY sweet, both of them. (I'd be proud to call them my employees if they worked for me.)
I'm not crazy about the religious music that's often played here on the speakers. (Religion and politics don't mix well with business. They just DON'T.)
But if that's my only complaint (and it is), well, that's not much to fuss over.
I don't usually eat fast food, nor do I often leave Yelp reviews for fast food restaurants.
But this place? It deserves some kudos, so I'm...
