I loathe leaving bad reviews for small businesses but if you have a food allergy, I cannot safely recommend you visit JuJus. This is now a matter of safety.
For as long as we've been going there, not one single staff member had an issue snagging an allergy scoop for me. I would apologize profusely and they assured me it was NBD! Last night after waiting in line for 20 minutes, I asked for an allergy scoop explaining my allergy and I received a blank stare and was told by the staff member "I'll be honest...what you're allergic to is right next to the flavor you want so..." We left.
My husband wanted to gut react and leave a review immediately, but I spent 15 years in the service industry and asked that he instead reach out and give them a chance (with super easy suggestions on how to prevent contamination!) to address the issue. It was kind, it was thoughtful, and it was more effort than either of us needed to put in. What did we get in response? A sarcastic thumbs up.
Alright then! Here's my own thumbs down. Be better. Food allergies are doubling, even in some cases (like mine) tripling. If you set a year's long precedent that you cater to food allergies and then suddenly decide not to with no warning, no signage, AND catch an attitude when kindly and privately asked to review policies, you can also catch a bad review. I'll ignore bad service and bad food, but this is straight up dangerous. I will never...
Read moreI was so excited to try Juju’s for the longest time. Where I grew up, there was custard everywhere and this is one of few places that has it in Washington State. Finally, on the way back home to Seattle, I got the opportunity to try it. I was, unfortunately, very disappointed in my experience.
The custard was not great at all. I felt like I was eating ice cream and not custard. The flavor and texture were not that of traditional mid-west and southern custard flavors. It was a huge disappointment given all the hype that I heard about Juju’s.
The staff were friendly. I love the classic old school ice cream shop vibe. It is a smaller place and it does get very busy. There is limited indoor and outdoor seating. It was just as hot indoors as it was outdoors when we went. I did like that they had a bar with toppings that you could choose.
I might be back, but I won’t be trying their custard. I would be trying their ice cream. If you want good custard, I cannot necessarily recommend Juju’s, but their ice cream might be...
Read moreI've eaten here a few times and each time the ice cream was great. The ice cream (vegan, traditional ice cream or custard) is smooth and rich in flavor with delicious options available if you have food allergies.
The last couple of times in the last 6 weeks or so I have been in the restaurant to order, I either would have to wait an extra 15 minutes for my order or not get it at all because a white man who came in after me took what was left because the staff waited too long to fill the order (and they filled the white man's orders right away). If my white boyfriend would order for me, I would get my order right away and wouldn't need to wait at least 15 minutes to get it. It is unrealistic to be attentive to only the white men while leaving women and those of other races waiting for their order waiting. Due to the discrimination I have been facing, I am sad to say I will not be back. The owners also own Cascadia Grill next door (which I will also...
