Really wanted to like this restaurant but sadly will never be back. My husband and I went in on friday night and seated ourselves per the woman at the desk. After waiting for what felt like forever I thought we maybe ordered at the register, I walked over and before I could say anything the woman told me she is coming with our waters right now. I said okay and returned to our seats. Once she got there I told her it was our first time there so sorry if i misunderstood. She replied with "well atleast you had a chance to look at the menu." okayyy. Food arrived quickly and was mediocre at best. My husband ordered a 1 star and I ordered 2, why was my dish one of the spiciest dishes I've ever had at a Thai restaurant? This is coming from someone who has had this dish well over 100 times in my life. After we paid for our food I mentioned something to the waitress and she tried to tell me that 2 star is considered mid level spicy, how does that make sense when the scale is 1-5? My dish was red in comparison to my husbands plate and there was a ridiculous amount of red pepper flakes left on my dish after we packed up our leftovers. (which we ended up throwing away anyways.) The table next to ours ordered the same plate 3 star, when I glanced at their dish it wasnt red. Weird. It felt intentional that my meal was made the way it was. Wont be back... ever.

Nou Thai is one of the better Thai restaurants I’ve tried in Olympia. Their chic and modern interior and paired down menu is definitely a departure from what many of us are used to: the strip mall Thai restaurants with tacky interiors that haven’t been renovated since the 90s and the same exact menu with red, green, panang, and yellow curry. Nou Thai is not that. Their menu is small and focused, allowing for expertise in each of their dishes. The massaman curry is delicious: a rich mix of peanuts, coconut, and spices. The Pad Thai had perfectly springy noodles, a good amount of veggies and protein, and a sweet and sour sauce fortified by tamarind (not ketchup like some places use). Everything was fresh, delicious, and exciting. The service was attentive and pleasant, if a bit slow due to a brisk takeout business. Their dining room felt a bit awkward due to the lack of background music. Not a big deal, but it might help make the experience even friendlier. But the food is enough in and of itself to return for, again and again. I’ll be back with high hopes for the rest of the menu!

We’ve been here a couple times in the past year and this place has never disappointed. Actually quite the opposite, they far exceed expectations and come close to some of the best Thai we’ve had. We’ve ordered almost everything off their small menu but their pad kee now/drunken noodles, Massaman curry, pad Thai and Tom Yum soup (with coconut milk) are just stellar. Not too spicy by default and they could amp up the heat for those that seek that spiciness from Thai food. Something about the high heat of the wok that imparts a unique smokiness to the stir frys… they even had cold & fresh coconut water yesterday to help beat the heat - super refreshing! And, their mango with sticky rice was a sweet way to end the meal…with the mango not too tart. We typically order to go and eat at the benches in the park across the street overlooking the State Capitol building. This is now a must-eat-at place when we’re traveling down south from Seattle to Oregon.

I don't like giving bad reviews, so make sure you read for full context.

Visited last week and ordered the Masaman Curry. I have a moderately high spice tolerance so I ordered three stars. It came out quickly but I was stunned to find it was extremely salty - saltier than seawater, about like what you would want in a saltwater gargle. Absolutely inedible.

Embarrassed, I brought it up to the counter to return, explaining it was extremely salty. Here's where the 5-star service comes in. The owner was apologetic and perfectly understanding, and immediately offered to have the chef re-make the dish for me. I gratefully accepted, even though I wasn't sure my now-rebellious stomach would welcome ANY food for a while. The replacement came out - and it, too, was inedibly salty. I felt so bad. Here they had made a replacement for me and it was just as awful as the first!

I apologized to the host and explained this, too, was too salty to eat. She offered me something else off the menu and - mostly to be polite, as at that point I wasn't sure if I could eat anything else for a while - I suggested simple chicken Phad Thai, one star of spice. Noodles, I thought. Plain noodles would be safe.

Again, marvelous customer service, perfectly understanding, the hostess was wonderful. She brought the noodles. Now, Phad Thai is one of my favorite dishes and I've eaten it many times in many place. This version was slimy and - oddly - bitter. I tried to get some of it down but soon asked for a takeaway box. Sad to say, I asked for it mostly because I could not ask them to take away yet another dish, not when they had been so understanding. At the same time, I could not eat the Phad Thai either.

I left the restaurant and wandered the nearby park because I didn't want to get back in my car right away. I felt absolutely nauseous, to the point where I almost wanted to just get it over with. That lasted a few hours, then eased.

I truly wanted to like this place. The hostess is a gem, certainly. I hope others have a better experience...

We just went here while passing through town. Our group was 3 adults and my 3 year old(it's her birthday). I would absolutely never go here again.

While the food is good (the rice was overcooked) I would absolutely never come here again. The waitress was so rude to my toddler that i was blown away.

First my toddler spilled some water, she went over and asked for napkins, and clean this fill up herself. When she went to throw away the napkins, the waitress snapped at her to not get out of her chair.

When we were ordering, my 3-year-old went to order her food herself, and the waitress snatched the menu from her and walked away.

My toddler really likes looking at menus while we eat and asking about the food, so we asked to keep a menu, the waitress ignored us and snatch the other menus away as well. And when I say snatched I do mean that I was holding on to it not handing it to her and she took it out of my hands. She did the same to my toddler. She continued to treat my 3-year-old this way to the point where my child was so upset and hurt she was asking why the waitress didn't like her, and wouldn't eat.

She was also just rude to us as well. She cut us off while we were talking and trying to order, and just walked away without taking our order. When we asked for a slightly larger to-go container because our food did not fit in the small one she gave us, she just said no. They did have them, she just refused to give us one.

The food is not worth the very poor treatment. When we were leaving my cousin did talk to her about it, and her only response was "I don't care"

Like I said the food is good but it's not worth the very...
