If I could leave no stars, I would. Horrible experience at the downtown Omaha Hiro. First we got seated at a two top table next to the patio door. There were at least five tables available in the middle of the room, but for some reason the host thought sitting next to a main traffic door would enhance our dining experience? Before I could ask to be reseated, she turned her back to us and walked away. We sat at this wobbly table getting blasted by the hot humid air from the patio door for over 11 minutes before our first contact with a server who brought water to our table and left. After a few more minutes of sitting in the traffic way of the patio, I decided to go to the host stand to ask to be reseated. We are then seated at a table in the corner of the room under the air conditioning vents. The air is turned up so much the curtains in the window next to us are moving and the flame of the little candle on the table is dancing in the strong bast of cold air. But at least I had my view of the room blocked by a large grey support pillar. Eventually our server came back to take our order. I never did get the feeling he really wanted to wait on us. We ordered a sushi roll and his response was “that’s it?” I told him we would start with that then order more after we looked at the menu. He left and about 20 minutes later we got our sushi roll. We then ordered fried green beans, short ribs, and chicken satay. The green beans arrived about 10 minutes later, the short ribs about 10 minutes after that brought by a different server. He asked how everything was and I told him that the AC was freezing us out. He said he would ask to have the AC turned back a little. But that didn’t happen. Our original server reappeared and we then we had to ask where the chicken was. Server went to go track it down. My iced tea glass was empty and unnoticed by the server on his last visit. He brought the chicken out a few minutes later, then had to ask me what I was drinking to refill it. I then ordered the small shrimp tempura plate with steamed rice. That came out fairly quickly much to my surprise. We ate as much of the tempura as we could before the Artic blast we were sitting under made it cold. We had a few left overs so the server offered to bring us containers when he brought the check. We saw other tables with takeout containers and paper bags with handles so that is kind of what I expected. He brought out 3 small containers and no bag. As I boxed up our left overs I was wondering how I was going to juggle them with my purse as I walked to my car. The server brought the check and told me he would get me a bag. He returned with the horrible white plastic bag with “thank you” repeatedly printed on it instead of the flat bottomed paper bag with handles I expected. I just wanted to settle my bill and leave. I put my card in the folder, the server picked it up and in a few minutes brought the folder back. I opened it and there was the original ticket and my card, but no copy for me to sign. Server disappeared for a few minutes so we had to flag down the host to find out if we were going to get our copy to sign. I signed the copy and we left. I felt like it was Just one struggle after another to get seated, served, and pay our check. By far the worst dining experience I’ve had for a very long time. I felt like because we weren’t the 20-30 somethings that were seated around us, we didn’t get the same service attention since the servers spent more time “chatting” with those tables. Very disappointed. Hiro has good food, but our service was poor and the hospitality was nonexistent. I’ve had great service at the Hiro in Lincoln. Won’t go back...
Read moreHiro 88 in Omaha, NE is a very tasty place to get sushi and foods similar to that cuisine. Hiro 88 was the first place that I went to eat in Omaha due to the recommendation from a coworker who had recently visited Omaha on vacation. Hiro 88 had a very nice ambiance when waking in the door to get food. I was able to be seated right away, as it was just me on a business trip to Omaha. I was seated at a high top table near the bar on the right side of the restaurant. The way to order there is by marking the quantity of the item wanted, which is a very cool way to get people in and ordered without having to wait for the waiter or waitress. The description of each item is below the name, which helps for easy identification and less questions between customers and employees.I was there during happy hour, some of the sushi, appetizers and drinks have happy hour prices, but not everything is on happy hour. I ordered edamame and miso soup for an appetizer. The soup was very tasty, which good flavor. The edamame was good as well, I took most of that home for a snack later on in the day. I ordered the asparagus salmon roll and Husker roll for there. I ordered the hiro crunch roll and Philadelphia roll for the next day. The husker roll was very delicious, it had great flavor with the eel sauce. The asparagus salmon went very well together and had an amazing flavor to it. The Hiro crunch and Philadelphia were tasty as well, I enjoy all of their sushi it had strong flavor and was very tasty. The waitress Xei and I also had a good conversation, she helped to get to know the city and learned more about it, which I really appreciated since I had never been there before and she was willing to answer my questions and tell me the places I need to go before leaving, so thank you to her, she was fantastic! I also talked briefly with the other staff, they were all kind and very helpful to me not knowing about the city or the restaurant. Highly recommend to anyone visiting the city for sushi and...

Really wanted sushi today so we went to Hiro 88. We reserved online using OpenTable. We got there were greeted waited a few minutes to have our table cleaned off. We were sat, the host told us about the QR code to bring up the menu online. We did that, looked at it (the all day happy hour menu of course, it’s Sunday!) We ordered, appetizers came quick had to wait a long while for the sushi which we weren’t upset about with it being Valentine’s Day) we finished and were ready to go, had my card out on the table. Bill came and 5 out of the 8 items ordered were priced at full price. I asked the server about it and she proceeds to tell us that they weren’t doing happy hour because it’s Valentine’s Day. I let her know I didn’t know that and she said there was a sign on the door and that the host should have told us. 1. We didn’t notice it because it’s taped to the door right behind the etched sign with their hours of operation on it. The host did NOT tell us about that detail. Mind you, she (the server) also could have told us. She asks if I wanted to speak to the manager and I usually don’t do that but said yea in hopes of them being understanding to their mistake. The manager comes and it turns out to be the guy who greeted us when we walked in who also could have taken the opportunity to inform us about the change. He was unpleasent and in fact made me feel like it was MY fault for not seeing the sign on the door. He tried to make me feel better by saying that I wasn’t the only one this happened to. He actually said he wasn’t going to do anything for us and of course he was sorry. I let him know I understood his business but felt disappointed and that he and his staff should feel the same. I am sooo annoyed and this put a damper on our celebration. If I knew I would have been paying full price for sushi I would have gone to Blue. That’s why I want to go so far as to say I’m never going back to have sushi at this...
