Hungry at high noon while visiting in downtown Orlando, I noticed this sandwich shop on Orange Ave. My instincts rebelled against the name. Who, after all, imagines Orlando needs "New York" anything?! Foolishly ignoring my initial impression, I stepped inside. Immediately, I noticed the food was being heated up in micowave ovens and served on styrofoam plates w/ plastic utensils. I was ready to bolt when I noticed several electrical outlets along a wall, adjacent to a row of small tables. My laptop, which I had w/ me, was dead. I needed to charge it to get some work done that afternoon. My relentlessly wishful thinking convinced me that a nicer lunch spot, which I could find nearby, might not have electrical outlets near the tables. I resolved to remain, therefore, despite my concerns. I ordered a small Greek salad w/ chicken and balsamic dressing. I imagined that the apparently homemade salad dressing in this family-owned-n-operated deli would b tasty. And in such a casual setting, I didn't mind pulling out my laptop, putting it on the table with my plastic-wrapped lunch and plugging the cord into the outlet by the table. I soon noticed, however, my laptop wasn't getting any juice. After several adjustments, I realized the electrical outlet wasn't working. I put my computer back into its carrying case and turned my attention to lunch. I soon discovered, however, the salad dressing was off, so it ruined the salad and the chicken. I left this alleged "NY Deli" in search of a glass of wine, reminding myself, in love as in lunch, let your first impressions...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreSUMMARY: Overall, not a very positive experience. I'm going to give them another shot by actually going to the store to see if they have options that are not available through online ordering.
FIRST IMPRESSION: Made an order online (Uber Eats). Haven't gotten the food yet to review, but worthy of note:
SERVICE: Received as ordered (see notes about ordering options). Delivered quickly.
FOOD REVIEW: First time ordering from a "New York Deli." Clearly a different experience from other types of delis.
Pastrami "sandwich:" Actually a "sub" as it came in white bread submarine roll. Included pastrami, lettuce, tomato, onion, cheese, some kind of dressing, pepperoncini... Not the way I'd normally prefer a pastrami sandwich. Not sure if it's just the limited capabilities of online ordering, but I always prefer pastrami on Rye bread to start with.
Pastrami: cold, and not very much of it
Condiments: Something like Italian dressing, which I would have asked to be left off if there was an option. No option to add brown mustard, which I ALWAYS prefer with pastrami..
Cheese: cheap, flavorless "American" which I would have asked them to leave off if there was an option to do so. No option to select other cheeses.
Other toppings: Tomato, red onion, green peppers, lettuce and a few spinach leaves. Again, would have excluded all of these if the option...
