My recent dining experience at Bao’s Spot on Church Street turned out to be a delightful encounter with the diverse flavors they offer. Nestled in the bustling downtown of Orlando, this spot is a gem for anyone looking to indulge in a variety of dishes that cater to both adventurous eaters and those who prefer something more traditional. The hearty selection of items, including ‘The Rebel’, ‘Meteor Bites’, a kid-friendly grilled cheese with fries, and gyoza did not disappoint. Bao’s Spot shines particularly during happy hour, with unbeatable deals on drinks and baos priced under $5. It’s an offer that’s hard to pass up and adds great value to the dining experience. While the service was just okay, not detracting from the overall experience, the food more than made up for it. The ‘Rebel’ and ‘Meteor Bites’ were standout dishes, offering a burst of flavor and a peek into the culinary creativity of the kitchen. The gyoza was also well-prepared, a nice nod to classic Asian fare that complemented the meal. As for the grilled cheese with fries, it was described as plain, yet it managed to hit the spot, especially for my child who found it to be quite tasty. In conclusion, Bao’s Spot in downtown Orlando is worth a visit for those looking for a casual dining experience with the opportunity to enjoy a variety of dishes. Whether you’re in it for the happy hour deals or to explore the menu, it’s a place that seems to have something for everyone. The food certainly does not disappoint, and I look forward to returning to try more of what they have to offer.

The Bao Spot offers a unique dining experience with a promising menu and futuristic thematic decor. My meal started with the fried Brussels sprouts. They hao potential but were a bit too al dente and could use more seasoning beyond just the honey and bacon. Dipping them in the provided white sauce was tricky, so drizzling it on top might be a better option. The second course featured two bao buns: The Mojo and The Rebel. The Mojo, with its Braised Beef, Mojo Sauce, Guac, Pico, and Cilantro, was decent. The guac sauce was delicious, but the beef was a bit dry, and the cilantro flavor was hard to detect. The Rebel, with Spicy Crispy Softshell Crab, Dressed Arugula, and Apple Kimchi, had great flavor, though a bit fishy. The sauce on this would be fantastic on fried chicken! The highlight was the Space Burger, which had sautéed onions and ranch. It was incredibly flavorful and moist - a definite must-try. The restaurant's space dragon theme is visually appealing, though the music could use more variety. One downside was hearing a cook loudly discussing free food giveaways, which was somewhat distracting. Overall, The Bao Spot shows a lot of effort in its menu and ambiance, though a few tweaks could elevate the experience even more.

The only thing that might be better than their food is their commitment to service and hospitality. We were immediately welcomed when we came in with a warm hello and a smile, and that's despite having a service order kiosk. I only mention that to highlight they didn't "have" to greet customers to do their job, it's just an obvious part of the culture here. On to the menu. The bao is phenomenal! Pillowy soft with great care to balance the meat and sauce as to not over power it. The softshell crab bao is fantastic, and truly balanced. The Holy Cow burger was killer, with a good heat that is approachable for most pallets (maybe too mild of you are looking for something really hot, but I found it was really good). Also, don't sleep on the fries. My wife and I described them as "clean" - perfectly crispy, not too salty, and still very much that potato-ness you are looking for. Lastly, the theming of the dining room is a scifi lover paradise. Awesome visuals throughout the "space" with awesome down tempo music (again, just another detail that highlights how much they care about the customer experience). This was our first of many visits to come. Finally a reason to come downtown!

Was there for Bingo and I was shocked at the prices for one single bao. We decided to share a burger which was severely under-seasoned. No taste to the onions and the beef was definitely not seasoned. I understand there was a crowd for bingo so the wait time of 35 minutes didn’t surprise us. We were there for a couple of hours and got hungry again, at this point everybody has left and my sister and I got 2 separate orders of baos. We waited a whole 30 minutes while watching the staff play around in the kitchen laughing and talking. I swear if we didn’t say anything we would’ve been waiting there an hour. Thankfully, when I brought it to their attention they were nice about it and gave us a refund and prepared it in less than 5 minutes. Their excuse was because bingo got hectic which is understandable but there were 3 orders waiting to be prepared which 2 of them were my sisters and I’s order. I don’t want to assume but I think the staff members weren’t sober. The two girls at the front were giggling and one was apologizing and asking us to pinky promise that we would come back and hope we weren’t mad. The other girl was laughing at the situation which just made it the more awkward. While walking out they said bye and the girl said something along the lines of “ I know I will see that girl again” while the other girl was laughing. I was understanding towards the whole thing and I hate leaving bad reviews but now that I left I think my overall experience wasn’t great.

Update:

I want to start by acknowledging the incredible effort The Bao Spot made to address my concerns from my previous visit. After my initial review, I was contacted by a manager who offered a gift card to encourage me to give them another chance. What really stood out to me was how seriously they took the feedback. The manager showed genuine concern and took steps to ensure that my next experience would be a positive one.

When I returned, the customer service was fantastic! It was clear that they had made changes and communicated with their staff based on the feedback I provided. I really appreciate when companies take the time to listen to their customers and make improvements, and The Bao Spot did just that.

The food was just as impressive as the service. The fried chicken appetizer was perfectly crispy and tender, and the dipping sauce complemented it so well. The baos I ordered were packed with flavor, and my friend’s bowl was seasoned beautifully. We also enjoyed ourselves with bingo, which made for a fun and enjoyable evening.

Overall, I’m really glad I gave The Bao Spot a second chance. They went above and beyond to turn my experience around, and I’m looking forward to coming back again. Great job,...

You're missing out if you haven't been here. We drove 1.5 HOURS from Tampa just to visit this spot. I'm not kidding, it was that good. From the atmosphere, service, and of course the 'out of this world' food.

This space themed restaurant is like a star wars fever dream that you don't want to wake up from. So for those of you who are all about the insta worthy photos, don't pass up your chance for the artistically decorated interior. There's even an alien dragon type monster that blows out smoke. If you're visiting Disney for galaxy's edge, this is a unique cherry on top. As a content creator, I had plenty of fun (and photos) from this visit.

The service is unparalleled. Warm welcomes and friendly staff, that alone makes me want to come back. The response from their instagram was prompt and friendly as well. If you go, tell Dallas I sent you.

Food? Phenomenal. We ordered 2 of the space burgers. The spicy fried chicken sandwich and "the" cheeseburger". They were really good! I especially love the novelty of it being shaped like a UFO saucer. The spicy fried chicken sandwich had a wonderful kick to it.

I saved the best for last and that would happen to be the fried soft shell crab bao. It's called "The rebel". It was perfectly fried and really crispy while maintaining that juicy center of the crab. I've had lots of fried soft shell crab before and most tend to be dry inside and too hard/soggy on the outside. But not this one. The toppings and sauce on it really gave it the burst of flavor in contrast to the fluffy bao bun. I wanted to order another one but unfortunately ran out of stomach.

If you're on the fence about visiting, I'd decide that you hop off on the right side and take a visit. I'm generally a harsh critic for food. I don't often write reviews, but this one had to be spoken for. Oh, as a bonus, if you dress up in cosplay on a saturday, you get a free bao of choice! I went as chewbacca and had a...

Wish this location was still a Jersey Mikes! That sucks because I was excited for this place. I eat out downtown for lunch everyday.

Got the fried chicken, fried shrimp and steak bass. Shrimp sucked (flavorless and not hot), fried chicken lacked flavor despite all the alleged good sounding ingredients and my review of the awful steak bao is in greater detail below. The Bao buns were all generally cold, but I got the steak chimichurri bao and the steak was literally fridge temp. They forgot to microwave it I guess? I bit into it and took it back. They offered to make me something else that I didn’t order bc making another steak bao would take awhile they said. So I go sit down and the chef guy comes and gives me a pork bao and says “this one’s on the house…” uh no it wasn’t. You messed up serving ice cold steak and I already paid for steak not pork. I was offended but my dining partner suggested maybe he just meant the pork was on the house but would still come back with the steak I ordered. They never came back and we waited…strike 1..

Also, got fountain drinks and I had to go up and demand a cup so I could drink something with the gyoza appetizer we ordered. Strike 2. Bad set up. Fix the mechanics of the place. Highly inefficient and fix the food. To boot it was more expensive than a Kres lunch which is 1000% better. Strike 3… I know it’s new but I cannot forgive so many transgressions in one single visit. Even if everything was perfect it’s still extremely overpriced so for those reasons I am out and will not return. Again, that sucks because I was excited about a...
