What I Ate at Universal Studios Orlando

So every single time we visit Universal, we make it a point to visit Vivo as it quickly became our favorite Italian joint in the whole area. Reservations are highly recommended (either with the front host or online) as it can get busy. We rolled in about 10:55pm, and they were closing at midnight. The ambience inside is very nice, and I love the open kitchen with it's bar seating where you can watch the chefs in action. They have cool circular booths that form a kind of cage around your, although we haven't had a chance to sit in those yet. There are tables with cushioned leather seats, and then tables with metal seats - the latter are honestly uncomfortable on the colder days because your butt is just freezing throughout dinner. During this last visit we celebrated my friend's birthday and had the chance to get 25% off with our premium passes. We ordered: 2 Stellas, 1 Peroni, a hot tea, a margherita pizza and calamari to start, chicken marsala, bucatini and meatballs, sausage ragu, and cacio e pepe. I was annoyed with the beer prices as you can get larger pours for the same prices at other venues in CityWalk. The complimentary bread is very good as it comes out warm and has that perfect balance of soft chew with crispy crust. Each table has a bottle of EVOO, but you can request balsamic vinegar to dip as well. The margherita pizza was phenomenal (usually we get the quattro formaggi, but the fresh basil really made the margherita sing to us). The fried calamari were wonderfully tender but perfectly fried, and accompanied with a grilled lemon and tiny pickled peppers. All the mains were cleaned off as we thought they were delicious. I personally got the cacio e pepe, which comes with large, well-cooked shrimp. I'm also that person who loves a mound of freshly grated parmesan coating my pasta (poor server just had to keep grinding away...). Next, we ordered the tiramisu and the cannoli for dessert. Tiramisu was amazing, and they added a candle and a "Happy Birthday" message in chocolate! The cannoli though....such a let down. It's not even because we are used to good cannolis in the North End of Boston. The cannoli shell were embarrassingly stale and way too thick. The ricotta filling was forgettable. The cherry on either end tasted quite off. Overall the whole thing was pretty cold, signifying that it was probably made way ahead of time and just refrigerated until served to us. They were also pretty small. Our server was pretty great, friendly and witty (and also sang Happy Birthday with us). Overall, we will of course visit again as we do love their food. But dessert man, lost a star for ending the meal with such mediocrity.

I was very disappointment with my first experience at VIVO Italian kitchen. I want to reiterate that I am very big on customer service regardless of how good the food is and how "fancy" the establishment looks. I understand that with COVID the wait times are longer than usual, but to sit at a table for over an hour before having our order taken is a little outrageous. When the waiter finally arrived to get our order he was very blah with his attitude and dared to drill me about why I did not want ricotta cheese on the Calamari dish I had ordered for my fiancé as that is how it is usually prepared. She is allergic so I wanted to make sure the dish had none. Once I told him to not worry about it just to go ahead and stick with our main dishes he changed his tone and assured me the Calamari could be made without the ricotta cheese to which I agreed and proceeded to order. What is sad is that out of the total 2 hours we were there he came 3 times to ask how everything was. Our drinks had been sitting empty for most of the time. It was not until the end of our meal that he decided to ask if we wanted a refill. The bread served as a free appetizer had no taste not to mention the horrid plain olive oil that came with it. I will say however the breaded Calamari which came with 2 sauces (marinara & a white creamy lemon garlic aioli) was delicious as were the main dishes. My fiancé got the chicken fettuccine alfredo and I got the Cacio E Pepe. My brother and stepmother who happens to be Italian got the Squid Ink Seafood. At $20+ a dish the taste was not remotely close to the quality we were expecting. Honestly you can find better tasting dishes at an Olive Garden restaurant and I am not even a fan of Olive Garden. Quite sad to say that other waiters/waitresses that would pass by were more attentive than Mr. Vazid. I enjoyed my Cacio E. Pepe which was a shrimp pancetta with black peppers, pecorino, & bucatini. The Squid Ink Seafood came with shrimp, clams, mussels, calamari, white wine, basil, & black spaghetti. The Chicken Fettuccine Alfredo has grilled chicken, Parmesan cream sauce, pancetta with peas. All in all the dishes were good, but not great. I am glad we got an appetizer to get us through the hour and a half wait. I did not appreciate the waiters standoffish demeanor and his lack of attention to our table. Safe to say this is a restaurant we will avoid in the future.

Our table waitress and the excellent quality of the food saved the night! Let me start with the good part: the restaurant decor, open kitchen, atmosphere is great. We had a half-booth table for 5 that cradled us for a lovely New Year’s Eve dinner. Our waitress Ka.. (apologize that I can’t remember how to spell her name right) was amazing, cool and quick with everything we ordered. The food came out fast, and exceeded our expectations in how good it was, given how busy and chaotic everything seemed at the beginning. Child spaghetti and meatballs 💯, chicken piccata 💯, Italian meat pizza 💯. Seeing the chef at the pickup line checking everything and even serving plates himself. 💯 Now the feedback: our hotel concierge made a reservation for 7pm, of course its understandable that NYE is a bit crazy, but I think the volume of reservations and how many people they accepted that walked in, just rolled over the Maitre d’ team. We had to wait for over an hour. Not a huge problem, but the atmosphere at the entrance was tense, and I think people could have been given better estimates of when their table could be ready. Understandable it’s NYE, and they were working hard to fix it and sit everyone as quickly as possible. I decided to go to the bar and purchase a nice, expensive bottle of wine to have a glass with my wife while we waited, and here is where floor manager David almost ruined the night for us with the most ridiculous decision. I’m 44, my wife 39, three big kids with us, and they refused to sell the bottle because I did not have my physical ID with me, and the digital copy of my passport, license, wasn’t good enough. Besides, waiting there for almost an hour by now and I was the only one at the bar asked to provide an ID. David have a stupid explanation that he would loose his job… etc. I didn’t get upset, but was surprised by how unfortunate it was how he managed the situation, out of his depth in stress I thought due to how busy it was. He should have gone up to his boss. I ended up ordering and enjoying the same bottle at my table, where common sense and professional service prevailed. Long story of a busy night at a great restaurant that in the end got it right, and would happily recommend and visit again.

We recently visited Vivo Italian Kitchen at CityWalk Universal Studios and had a great experience overall! We booked our reservation online, but when we arrived, we had to “check in” and wait for our table, which seemed a bit odd. It felt like having a reservation should mean the table is ready, but the wait wasn’t too long. We were seated at the chef’s table, which wasn’t something we selected or expected. While it worked well for our small group (2 adults and a child), I could see it being less ideal for larger groups as it’s belly-up style seating that makes group interaction a bit tricky. That said, we really enjoyed watching the food being prepped and trying to guess the dishes as they came out—it added a fun element to our meal. The restaurant itself was beautiful and smelled amazing! It is on the pricier side, but the quality of the food and service made it worth it. Our waiter was fantastic—super attentive and helpful with recommendations. My son loved his wood-fired pepperoni pizza, which was perfectly cooked and absolutely delicious. I ordered a chocolate martini, and it was made to perfection! I’d recommend saving it for after dinner, though, as it felt more like a dessert drink. For appetizers, we had the calamari and classic Caprese—both were fresh, flavorful, and exactly what you’d hope for. My partner ordered the Alfredo with shrimp, which was rich, cheesy, and incredibly satisfying. Our waiter mentioned they’d recently changed the recipe to include more cheese, and it definitely delivered! I tried the Cappelletti, which wasn’t my favorite—it had a strong garlic aftertaste that didn’t work for me, but our waiter had given me a heads-up about that dish beforehand. Overall, we had a really good experience. The ambiance, service, and most of the dishes we tried were excellent. I’d definitely recommend Vivo Italian Kitchen, especially if you’re looking for a nice sit-down meal at CityWalk. Just keep the chef’s table in mind when booking if you’re with a larger group.

I have to say that this spot has been on the money. As a dad of 4 & 3 of 4 are super picky, vivo has not failed us. On vacay and the wife and i popped in late for a bite and the meatball Bucatini were on point. I decided to bring the 2 picky eaters on saturday and they both cleaned their plates. Chicken parm, Fried calamari and chicken fingers that did Not disappoint. I will say that if these 2 great experiences with Micheal and the other waiter( he usually waits by the bar area with a mask) were not enough , yesterday was a doozy. My wife had a gathering planned with 18 members of her family. Sadly the spot they had fell thru so i went to Vivo and without hesitation Joanna began to try and help me. She jumped on her earpiece and was chatting away with people. Within 2 mins Ray came out and shook my hand, he said im going to do everything in my power to make this happen. A second later Deztine came iuf and they began looking at the pc and making changes. Ray said , listen come back in an hour and we will have you seated and together!! My party got there a few min early so we were allowed to sit at the bar and begin our time together. A few ordered drinks and some just water but Bryan was funny, pleasant and kind. This staff has been the most pleasing , most professional, most personable i have dealt with in a long time. I travel to many states & have eaten in many places but this spot has surpassed most of them! Giovanna the server was on point, she got all the orders down and correct for 15 of us! The linguini w clam sauce was delish The lamb lollipops were gooooooood Let me tell ya about the cannolis, yummmm Thank you for such an amazing time and experience. Great job Ray, Mike, Bryan, Giovanna and the guy w the mask!
