We dined here with a party of 11, 4 kids, and 7 adults on 8/9/25. I made two reservations (as we could not make a single one for 11 without a week’s notice) and arrived 30 minutes before our scheduled reservation to help bring the two reservations together. Prior to arriving for dinner, earlier the same day, I reached out to the Universal reservation desk, and they suggested we arrive early to help accommodate the request. Once I arrived, I shared with the staff that I had two reservations (one in my name and another in my wife's name) and we wanted to ensure we sat close together if two separate tables or have one table for 11. I also stated if we had separate tables, we wanted to split it with 4 at one, and 7 at the other (4 kids, 7 adults). I stated that multiple times, and then they said we should wait and they would call us when they were ready. 10 minutes later, they showed us the tables they assigned, and those tables would not accommodate more than 6 at one, which meant 5 would be at the other table. Secondly, the tables were two round tables in the bar area, and we had four 5-9 year old kids, so it didn't work either way. I reiterated what we needed and was told they could not do it because at least one adult needs to be at a table with the kids. To which I replied, we had no intention of leaving the kids far away from the adults, just next to us at a separate table if they could not accommodate all 11 guests at one table. After some unnecessary back and forth with the staff, they put together a long table to accommodate all of us. The point to this part of the story is the time spent going back and forth, explaining over and over again what we wanted, and then seemingly not being listening to was a big waste of time with a bunch of hungry kids and adults. Once we sat down, we were given menus, but none of them were kids’ menus. I asked one of the staff walking by if they could help bring kids’ menus, and after a couple of minutes, he came back and said, "We don't have kids’ menus." This threw me off as I looked up their menu in advance and saw kids’ meals, so I was confused and asked him again, "No kids’ menus or kids’ items at all?" and he said, “No kids’ menus." Right about that time, the guy who said they don't have kids’ menus walked away, and our server named Mark walked over, greeted us, and started to place chips and salsa on the table. I told him to hold off on doing anything more as we were going to leave because the experience up to that point was really bad, and we would not be ordering adult meals for the kids given there were no kids’ meals. It was just a terrible start, and all the adults were frustrated at this point. Mark the server, clarified and said that no kids’ menus were available as they ran out of the printed copies. But he had one printed kids’ menu in his pocket for exactly this moment. He helped put our minds at ease, and we sat back down. Why the other guy simply said, “No kids’ menus” and didn't offer any other explanation is beyond me. After the initial interaction with Mark the waiter, the dinner went so much smoother, and he made the experience there a positive one for sure. He was super attentive to our needs, understood the kids’ meal order should go into the kitchen first to please the little monsters, and simply made the whole Antojitos experience much better than it started. I write this lengthly review to simply point out that a great server experience can easily overcome a terrible start to a dining experience, and for Antojitos to better educate their staff on reservation management, customer requests, and handling questions on menu items when a print copy is not available. Kudos to...
Read moreThis was a horrific experience: First of all the two stars in food was only for the chips and salsa. Atmosphere was good but the singer in the back was lovely. We walked so much prior to coming here (because we were at universal) and then we had high hopes for this restaurant. I ordered a chimichanga, a simple yet filling meal. Within 15 minutes we got the salsa, guacamole chips. I happily munched on them. Little did I know this would be the ONLY thing me and my whole family would be eating for the next 3 hours. Ill write the time passes and the whole moral of the group-
30 minutes in- the chips were eaten, we thought it would be only one more hour at the max. The whole group was still joyful. My mom told me to eat less of the chips because the food will come soon.
50 minutes in- I was still waiting, I knew it would come soon, hopefully. Just 40 more minutes.
1 hour 30 minutes in: my food didn’t arrive. Our group was big and to be fair there was a lot of people. Just a little longer.
2 hours in: 6 bowls of chips. I was full by then. The moral was low. The games we play played such as “21 questions” and such got boring. I felt like slamming my head repeatedly into the table until I get so brain dead I taste this unreachable chimichanga. We asked the waiter if the food was coming, they said “it was coming soon”
2 hour 30 minutes in: No was limiting my chip devouring. No one cared anymore. Every single time a bowl came it was a full out battle to get those damn chips, salsas, and guacamole. We asked the waiter if the food was coming, they said “it was coming soon”
2 hour 50: There a group of 7 (two less than ours) and they got their food within the hour they came in. I couldn’t wrap my head around it, I don’t know if they had a personal vendetta against us or they forgot. I just wanted to choke myself out so the paramedics can carry me out while having a legitimate reason to leave this Hell hole. We asked the waiter if the food was coming, they said “it was coming soon” 3 hours in: the food finally came. The food wasn’t even plated nice, all of our food was cold. It was clear it was just sitting out and no one bothered to serve to us. I gave it the benefit of the doubt and took a bite of my chimichanga. The ratio was off. I didn’t know a restaurant could mess up a chimichanga this horrendously bad. There was more beans and cheese than meat. Everyone else deemed this food too bad to even try to eat. We payed and left the food there at the table. Ever since chips and salsa has never...
Read moreWe dined at Antojitos at Universal CityWalk on Friday, July 4th with a party of 9. Despite the holiday, we walked in at 5 PM and were seated almost immediately, which was a nice surprise.
The atmosphere was festive, with lots of guests dressed up for the Fourth of July. One of the highlights was the group of dancing señoritas in beautiful traditional dresses who visited the tables—they were absolutely lovely, engaging especially well with the kids at our table.
Our server, Nick, answered our questions about the menu, but overall seemed disengaged. Unfortunately, that seemed to be the general vibe among most of the staff in our area, lacking presence and enthusiasm. One of our drinks had to be reminded to him because it never came, and we didn’t receive silverware until after we had already started eating our appetizers.
A few disappointments started before we even ordered: the menu on their website didn’t match the one we were given, so items we were looking forward to (like the Vegetarian Fajitas and Tapas Trio) weren’t available.
The appetizers were the bright spot of the meal: the Table Side Guacamole, Esquites, and Aguachile Verde were all very good (though a little heavy on the citrus). The guacamole portion could be larger for the price, but the tableside prep is fun. The Mangolada mocktails were also delicious, I’d definitely recommend them if you’re skipping alcohol.
Sadly, the entrees were disappointing across the board. I had the Vegetarian Enchiladas, and the veggies were undercooked, sweet potatoes and carrots were crunchy and unappealing. The rice and beans sides were also undercooked, and my dish wasn’t hot when it arrived. My husband’s Pollo a la Poblana had good flavor, but the small portion of chicken got lost in the sauce. No one at our table was really happy with their main dish.
Other issues added to the overall frustration: the water at the table tasted off, one of the kids’ juice cups arrived with the lid not snapped on properly, causing a big spill, and after a thunderstorm came through, the floors near the bathrooms became dangerously slippery. There were no wet floor signs or mats to warn guests, which felt like a serious safety hazard.
I do appreciate that when I let Nick know I wasn’t happy with my dish, it was kindly comped. But overall, with so many dining options at CityWalk, I wouldn’t recommend Antojitos. The atmosphere and starters were enjoyable, but the food quality, service, and attention to detail really...
