As a donut connoisseur I'm really harsh at my donut reviews. What are the biggest immediate fail points was when they put my Donuts in the Box they stack them a terrible way. When I got home I picked up one of the donuts all the frosting off The Vampire donut stuck to the other donut and made a terrible mess. Service here is also very slow it's very kind of convoluted.
Usually when someone shops for donuts you look at all the crazy delicious stuff behind the person at the counter. Personal like goes that one right there with the candy, what are those blue things, that right there well pointing at something random. It would then put it in the Box and I'd go home and eat it right away, truthfully I actually eat them in the car donuts don't usually make it home. But at Voodoo Donuts they don't do this. They write down what you want then after a while somebody comes out with the Box Donuts. Honestly I don't even know what I ordered please choose random names so you could have gave me the wrong stuff I would never know. The traditional way putting them in the boxes I picked them would also be a lot faster of a service. I'm not sure why they went with this method because none of the donuts were freshly made to order you can see racks and racks at Donuts in the back and somebody else just put them in the box. This is resulting in increased labor cost a premium cost to a donut for us and a weird awkward pause between choosing what you want and getting what you want. I did find this method any sort of voodoo magic I thought it was actually a very sad way to handle a donut.
The donuts here are actually pretty good and fair the sizes pretty big, I will try to review the donuts individually.
Voodoo doll: 5 star, the voodoo doll is a big donut it's multiple eclairs bake together to look like a Stickman. The Filling is a raspberry jelly which is actually pretty good. Jelly didn't go all the way through into the head but it really didn't take away for the experience of this cool creation.
Creamsicle: 5 star, this is a giant donut with orange cream frosting actually on a stick like a giant popsicle stick. It's filled with a cream frosting which is really great overall this may have been the best of the batch that I got when I was there I'll definitely order this one again.
Vampire: 1 star, , the black frosting was awful sticky tasted terrible like chemicals that made it black. The feeling was completely gross this is the only donut I can remember in my life that I never finished eating. Don't get this donut!
Old fashion: 5 star, the very good take on the old style ring donut flavor was good to texture was good this is...
Read moreIf you're looking for a creative and quirky atmosphere to get your fill of tasty spins on a classic american treat, look no further than Voodoo Doughnuts. Set in the heart of City Walk at Universal Studios, this shop is turning the volume up a notch by hand crafting off the wall doughnuts creations that will have you coming back again and again. The eclectic environment sparks plenty of opportunities for photo ops, and has many options to choose from whether you're looking for the traditional or vegan take on the little round morsels. All of the flavors I tried were very fresh. My personal favorites from my first half dozen were the Mango Tango, Diablos Rex, and the Voodoo Doll. The line was fairly long, but it was almost unfelt with the many souvenirs and decorations in the store to help keep your eyes and mind busy, as well as the doughnut carousel set in the heart of the stanchions displaying all the flavors available to choose from.
However great the place may be, there were definitely some areas where they can improve. Although there were many vegan options available to choose from on the menu, most were sold out at the time we went (roughly 6 o'clock), despite them being open until 1 am on Saturdays, which made the selection limited for my girlfriend who couldn't eat the traditional options for dietary reasons. Also, the Doughnuts were all stacked in a deep square shaped box that caused them to melt on each other and ruin the presentation, which made the photo op worthless. If they're looking to take the social media world by storm with glorious photos of these well thought out designs they spend so much time creating in the kitchen, and take advantage of free marketing by satisfied cleintel, they may want to rethink the shape of the sloppily put together shipping container.
All in all, I would definitely return and try them again next time I am...
Read morewent to Voodoo Doughnut at Universal Orlando and I wanted to leave a review. The experience there was honestly fun, even just waiting in line. The decorations inside were crazy in a good way. It was fun and weird while you waited. They had this big spinning display of fake donuts that shows you what they have before you order. It was cool because you could see exactly what the donuts look like. I remember seeing the Captain Crunch donut and one that looked like an Elvis themed one.
I went with my wife, my daughter, my sister, and my mother in law. Everyone got something and nobody complained. The kids were not bored in line either. Everyone enjoyed their donuts. Some of us were not really into certain ones but we just traded and shared them.
The donuts were sweet and really good but also huge. I am a big guy and one donut was enough for me. But honestly, I would be lying if I said I did not eat some of the leftovers because some people could not finish theirs and I am not the type to let good donuts go to waste.
The decorations inside were really cool too. I remember seeing a coffin and a bunch of stuff that fit the voodoo theme perfectly. The place was super pink inside which stood out a lot. The whole vibe in there was just fun and different.
The employees were really friendly too. As for the price, I think it was fair. The donuts are big, they are unique, and the flavors are pretty creative. The Captain Crunch donut especially caught me off guard in a good way.
Since it is inside Universal, the parking is just the Universal parking lot. It makes for a great little break from the rides or just a nice stop during the day. You can sit inside, grab a table outside, or just walk around with your donut.
Five stars from...
